Just a post on seeing a rather odd mpu prior fix. Bally mpu -35 board All the socketed chips were removed and their sockets removed and all those chips were soldered direct!!! WTF were they thinking??? On a side note, it actually worked. On another note , I sure would not want to remove them and resocket it lol....Should have gotten a picture of it.
 
One of the biggest problems with these "older" boards is that the copper pads tend to delaminate from the PCB surface when heated. Add to that the very high possibility that the amount of heat used could have been excessive, and certainly you have a board which would be VERY difficult to repair a second time.

Nice that it's working now, but presents issues for future rework.
