Bally Midway Universal Tester

I have seen a few of these over the years. Mostly in collectors shops unused. I do not think it is a great tool for fixing stuff but it is cool from a collecting standpoint. It's working condition and possession of the clear plastic overlays for different games would be a key selling point if you were looking for top dollar.

So what is this thing worth if you can find them?

"IF" you can find them? You mean the one that's been for sale (local to us in Chicago area) for several months now for $1395? And he's got 6 of them besides that. I don't think you'll have trouble finding one if you want it. Been on ebay too, but I just can't find it right now.

I paid exactly $0 for mine and it came with all of the known overlays, harnesses, and ROMs. I'd say a complete set like mine is worth less than $300 since there is no demand. I haven't gotten around to trying to use it yet but I should have it up and running by the end of next year.

I just need it to test video games not the space shuttle! Although I gotta say I wanna know how/where they acquired tiny steering wheels.

Those type wheels were often used on alot of rotary switches on test equipment in the 60's. Most likely an off the shelf item but good luck finding them now. They would probably mount right on a 1/4" pot shaft and make a great mini steering wheel.

I like this one better, more buttons to push.

That is my old Taito tester. The only manual I ever found for it was in Japanese and nobody could ever tell me anything about it otherwise. Those little steering wheels were super cool though. :)

Taito made another tester that came in briefcase allot like a CAT box although I do not know how it worked either. I have seen one or 2 of them sell in the states over the years but not in a long time.

I had never seen or heard of this until just recently, but I swear one was put up for auction on ebay within the past year, actually I think it was even more recently, like in the last 6 months. That was the first and only time I ever heard of this. But you are right, it looked very similar to a CAT box.
