Bally MCR "suitcase" supply, large filter caps question

I have a nice Solar Fox I got up an running, but it will reset after a while. Installed arcadeshops switcher converter and am running it off a new beefy ATX Antec supply, but after about 5 minutes the game starts to reset and the 5v goes low, I thought I read where the large CAPS in the "suitcase" regulate this, is this correct? I will be changing them out, same as tron, kickman, tapper etc... is this the case or is there a "sense" line on this game that needs regulated?

The 5VDC and the 12VDC lines are now being powered by the switcher. The big caps/transformer assembly has nothing to do with these voltages. The only thing the transformer assembly is still powering is the unregulated 12VDC line used for audio.

OK, I see that, makes sense on the drawing. I do know the guy said he plugged the boards in and noticed a few of the harness wires were unplugged, said a diode ont he sound board smoked a bit, but it plays and sounds great, I wonder if somthing there would drag it down,,,wierd b/c the power supply does not drag when its plugged in with no load..could be a bad supply but its fresh out the box...

I'd be investigating what smoked on the sound board. On some of these SSIO boards, capacitor CP34 is silkscreened backwards on the PCB.....thus, a lot of the caps were installed backwards at the factory. As this cap breaks down, it'll pull down the 5VDC line.....it'll eventually dead short. Check it out. It's a tantalum cap.....negative side should go to ground (regardless of how it''s printed on the board).
