Hi guys. Just picked up a bally cybernaut. Background in the machine is that a coil fried. It supposedly also took out the driver board. All boards were boxed up shipped to someone and fixed. Machine never booted up afterward.

I found the harness has been reconnected wrong. A connector on the solenoid board was swapped with one on the cheap squeak or one on the lamp driver board... anyways.. it plays fine but my sounds are weird. Nothing like others ive see in youtube.

I don't think anything is wrong with your game - you can change the sounds using the setup options, have a look in your manual page 7.

Cybernaut has 2 different settings, one has a cool solid-state era sound, the other has a simulated EM chime sound (that's what it is currently set on). I guess at the time they wanted Ops to be able to set their game for more traditional EM effects, but honestly, simulated chimes blow.

My old Bally Black Pyramid was from the same era, and it had 2 sound settings too.

OK, I just looked it up for you - in the self-test, go to #18, it is probably set on "00" now, switch it to "03" for the cool stuff.

Ahh I bet its on that by default due to no battery.,... thank you guys!!! I don't have a manual so I didn't know.
I really wish I could find a manual PDF for this beast.

^^ dude thank you so much!! Sound issue was exactly that just the setting.

So i will have to figure out how to get a battery back on board..

also noticed half of my playfield lights didnt work. Had power (5vdc)and ground to the aux lamp driver board but it didnt seem to be working. reflowed a binch fo crappy solder still no dice.

ENded up being a burnt up ground pin(s) under the center lights pcb right at the molex. I direct soldered it to the board for the time being.

Looks like some of the numbers on some of my inserts are worn. DOes anybody make a insert decal set? if i can find those and do some touchups and clear i could make this machine uber nice. being this is suck a low run machine(only 900?) i doubt theres a direct fit kit like there would be for say rfm.. but maybe i can find a kit that has insert decals that are close.

I think i might get some leds for gi too...not sure yet.

heres another dumb question... these flippers have the super long rods that go in the coils. thhe bushings int he coils are new. Two of them still stick because at the other end of the rod theres a small bushing that is gone on one and really worn on the other.
where the hell do i find those?

Bally flipper nyliner C-537-8 is available from the usual sources... Pinball Resource, Marco hmm maybe even a well-stocked hardware store. I know I've seen those in the box/bins of small bits down at True Value.....

No luck on car door hinge bushings... but did find that theferriule from a 5/16" compression fitting fits the shaft nice and will stock into the bracket somewhat. Put a small amount of loctite on one, shoved it into the bracket with a bench vise. After loctite cured added a safety layer of epoxy to ensure it stays in place. Going to try this out and report back. It has got to wear better then those damn nylon things.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/230919102573?lpid=82
