Hi,
I was referred here from another forum in hopes of getting some pricing for a few different cabinets. I've been playing and collecting gaming consoles for years now, but the Arcade scene is foreign to me. I may have a chance to purchase some machines locally and was hoping for some help coming up with reasonable offers for the following machines:

Metal Slug 3
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Marvel Super Heroes
Gauntlet Legends
Area 51
Crazy Taxi
Time Crisis (Double Cab)
Zombie Revenge
Some 2 Player Sega Racing Machines (cant remember which games)

They all seem to be in good condition, except the monitor on Marvel Super Heroes flickers a lot.

I dont want to lowball this guy because I hope to get a few of these in the long run.

Are there any common things to look for when purchasing machines like these?

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi Crab -- welcome to KLOV and video game collecting. :)

You might use Exidy's price guide as a starting point. Keep in mind that these values can change quite a lot depending on location.

This link is probably over a year old now so things may have moved around since then as well.

Wow, thanks for the quick responses. Between the two of you, you've given me some numbers to work with for a few different machines. I appreciate the help.

Any things to look out for when purchasing a used arcade cabinet? Also any tips for transporting them so I dont damage the machines?

Location dictates price sometime as well, where are you located?

pictures would help alot. Sometimes you land a game in it's dedicated cab (which just means its original packaging) and sometimes it's a game board which has been thrown into a generic or converted cabinet without its art and origianl appeal (greatly reducing its value).

I watch craigslist alot and surf eBay and see pricing from venders as well as hoarders and auctions. Around mid-valley Oregon pricing on these games (assuming they are all in dedicated cabs with art and 100% working) would be around here:

Metal Slug 3 $400
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 $500
Marvel Super Heroes $400
Gauntlet Legends $500
Area 51 $700
Crazy Taxi $1100
Time Crisis (Double Cab) No idea at all
Zombie Revenge No idea at all
Some 2 Player Sega Racing Machines (cant remember which games) Price depending on age, game, and condish. Outrunners might go for $400. But Outrun 2 may run you $2500

The more games you buy from someone, the easier time you'll have trying to talk them down on price. If not buying at auction, plug it all in when you're there. If something dosen't power up right, gives you more leverage on your price. And finally, cruise thru the KLOV database and learn a little about each game and watch youtube videos on them. The more you know about the title, the more you might recognize if somethings amiss (especially for pinballs).

Hope this info helps you. Welcome Crabmaster, master of all crabs.

As for location, im located in Northwestern British Columbia. There isnt much of a gaming or arcade scene at all up here so things like this are few and far between. Would that possibly raise the price?

I believe all the games are in their original cabinets. Its a chucky cheese type place that has all these machines, so I've been able to play them and check them out while powered up. I struck up a conversation with the owner/maintenance guy about selling some of them when I was there with my kid last. He seemed interested in giving them to me (for free) whenever they died to use for parts or whatever. I thought I'd throw him an offer and see if I could get one or two before that though.

I just bought a new house (we move in on Sunday) and will finally have my own dedicated game room. Any of these cabinets would be a great addition to my already pretty decent collection of cosole games.

I have been checking the database here for info on these machines. Its really amazing how much info there is on some of them.

Thanks for such a warm welcome too everyone!!!

Nice, another Canadian! You'll be surprised, there is actually several collectors in your neck of the woods :) .. and big collections! There are members from Terrace, Prince George, Kamloops, and Kelowna active on this forum.

I never would have guessed. Im actually from Prince George myself. I have relatives in Vernon so I've spent some time in Kelowna aswell.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 $500

Yeah for someone that doesn't realize the hardware alone goes for almost that much. Most all MvC2 cabs were just CPS Qsound cabs aka (Big Blue), with the harness hacked for Naomi.

Like I said in the original post Arcade Cabinets are foreign to me. I basically dont know what your talking about after the $500 point in your post. Is it anything I need to be concerned about when buying a MvsC2 machine?

used to work at a mill up in Mackenzie myself, good friend of mine is in PG right now too. Dawson creek used to have a huge arcade up there too , wonder if some of the games are still around, they had 2 lunar landers in the place , a major havok and a quantum that I can remember

We used to live in Fort st. John for many years. My sister has recently ended up in Dawson Creek so I imagine I'll be making my way up there from time to time. One of my clients's parents live in Mackenzie so I'll probably be going that way in the future.

The hardware MVC2 runs off of is called a Naomi motherboard. The set up is very expensive. About 500 for the motherboard/powersupply/io convertor etc etc. The MvC2 cart alone goes for around 150-300 pending where you find it. The naomi set up is around 300-500 pending if it has games or a gd rom with it.

I havent personally seen a MVC2 cabinet for under 750, unless it was beat up. Ebay has em for like 1200 lol

you can read about naomi here. http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=721

Do they have any classics there? Or just newer stuff? Any pinball machines?

There are a couple of us here that are from Kamloops that I know of.

I havnt seen any classic machines or pinball machines in town. The oldest machine I've seen around is probably 1992ish.

@StreetzKing

Thanks a lot for all the info on the Naomi Hardware and some more pricing tips for MvC2. I really appreciate it!!!
