Bagman High Score Save kit interest and committment list

I'm starting this Bagman High Score Save kit interest and committment thread and will be crossposting this to the FS section, in hopes of attracting maximum interest.

I saw Braido's initial post and messaged him offering to generate the needed interest and prepayments to make this kit a reality, like we recently did for the Commando HSS kit, which was a success.

Souzilla said he is willing to produce a Bagman HSS kit which will save high scores and add attract and freeplay, provided we are able to secure 15 prepayments for kits. Unfortunately this will not be a Bagman/SuperBagman multi at this time.

Please express interest and I'll add you to our interest list. October 15th, 2011 is the deadline for prepayments to be received, at which your name will be marked (paid). Kit price is $45 shipped.

We need 15 prepayments for this to happen. If interested, please send prepayment to my paypal acct: [email protected] and include the heading "Bagman HSS kit" along with your shipping address and klov handle. I request that you add 3.5% to cover the paypal fees, or mark payment as gift or payment owed, so I do not incur the paypal charge and receive full payment.

I will collect everyone's payments and send 1 group payment and everyone's shipping info at the deadline (earlier if we get 15 prepayments) to Souzilla, so he isn't receiving random payments to keep track of. If this project does not come to pass or is found impossible to produce, everyone will receive a full refund.

If this Bagman HSS kit moves forward Souzilla said he expects a relatively quick turnaround as there is already a high score table within the code.

I absolutely love the work and dedication these guys put into producing HSS kits for the games we love. Bagman is definitely another game that would benefit greatly with this enhancement. Thanks in advance for your faith and support!

Well I have my (regular) Bagman board finally, but a Super Bagman multi is the only potential buy-in for me.

Freeplay is not something I am interested in for any PCB - I prefer to coin up, the way these machines were meant to be played. And a High score saver is relatively useless for Bagman, since you can usually count your score with fingers and toes :p

Now if someone makes a Super Bagman multi, I'm all in. It's just 4 EPROMs, a single memory chip, and a couple slots to migrate CPU and MPU - it really can't be that hard...

We can bounce it off Souzilla again.. this was his reply when asked:

souzilla said:
Multi game would not work with the current hardware (I don't want to run new hardware just for this kit). It would need to be upgraded to a 32pin eproms to be able to bank switch the right way. I don't even know if bagman and super bagman run on the same hardware.

Not sure whether its doable or not though. If a multi did get done, I'd expect it to involve a significant price increase to account for the additional work and time involved. I'm a technical flea so I cannot say whether or not its doable.

I'd be down to buy one, and I don't own a Bagman, yet.

Tom: when did you score a Bagman? Seems to not fit your template for typical games in your collection.

thanks M1A gotcha down... Unfortunately I do not own a dedicated Bagman... I just have a pcb and jamma adapter I swap into my candy cabs when I need a fix :) thinking a HSS kit + subsequent Bagman high score thread will make me find time to play it. I totally suck at the game :)

On the collecting front, yeah man I've kinda fallen off the wagon and bought some games I could play on my candies: Wizard of Wor, Burgertime, Defender and Bank Panic... I probably would have been better served to stay with my strategy of collecting games with either special controls or monitors and grabbed Gravitar, Paperboy, and Foodfight instead, heh.

no clue how to make a multi for any game but I do know super bagman is just an add on board to an original bagman board so the hardware should be compatible.

Can someone explain what high score kits actually physically are? Do all games prior to a certain year need them to save the high scores, or just some? Is there a list of games that have had high score kits made for them? Do some high score kits work for multiple games?

A lot of the classics games don't hold the scores. So when you turn them off the High Score is gone. Also most of these kits have a Free Play option for the games that don't have Free Play, most of these kits also have an Attract Mode or a mod so they don't just sit at a screen that says 'press player 1 or 1 ' for ever....

I don't know the tech side of them but I've bought many of the High score save kits available and they are usually a set of replacement roms (socketed or unsocketed), battery backed ram and sometimes a daughtercard. Depending on the boardset, some may require a little soldering and some do not. Kits are unique to each game.

Some games save high scores on power down but many do not. This applies to both the older classics and newer jamma games. There are a number of awesome people in our hobby that have made High Score Save kits available to allow our games to retain high scores where they otherwise would not. Some kits provide a freeplay option as well as an attract mode as some games also do not have this. Some HS kits are also multi-kits that allow for other games to be played in the same game.

Here is a list of kits avail that I'm aware of and the author if known. My apologies if I fail to mention a kit or credit the wrong person. *** indicates kits I own:

Back to bagman, what is a good method to enable free play? Looks like there is one dip switch for coinage (1c per game or 2c per game). I could re-use the second one (2c per game) and make that free play. thoughts?

I never played bagman before, it is a decent game. once we get pre-payments the next step is to have someone lend me a board and jamma adapter.
