I just picked up a free Bagman machine, and when I plug it in there is no indication that anything is getting power. I'd like to restore it if possible, otherwise, it's going to be a MAME. I'm new to this, please help me!

I have no electrical diagnostic tools, but there's no noise whatsoever coming from the machine, and the power supply wasn't at all warm when I felt it(after unplugging it of course).

I've worked in WAN/LAN networking for over 10 years as a trade, so I have some technical expertise, but I'm lost in this arena. What is an interlock?

Just for background...This was in stored in a basement since 1997. That's the latest date on the quarters I found inside. No one could tell me when it last worked or why it was banished.

Whenever you remove the back panel on alot of these arcades, there is a switch that lets the system know that the back door has been opened and it shuts power off to everything. This switch is an interlock. There may be other interlocks.

Here is what an interlock switch looks like (in the link below). Most games but not all use these. Most of these switches are set up so when you remove the back door off a cabinet the power circuit is broken and the game is rendered dead until the switch is depressed again by putting the back door in place. On most of these switches the button can also be pulled outward into a position where the button stays in place. In this position the circuit is complete and power will run through the same as if the switch is depressed. Some games also have these switches in the coin door area. If more than one all these switches need to be in the on position (either depressed or pulled out) for the game to work. Also keep in mind that many games also have a power switch. Most are on the top of the cab somewhere. Some are on the lower back of the cab. A few are on the upper back of the cab and some are even underneath the cab just under the front edge. If this switch is not in the on position the game will also be rendered dead.

If you do not have one you will want to get a Digital Multi Meter.

You guys are awesome! Strangely enough, the back door was missing from this cabinet. I will give this a try as soon as I get my kids in bed.

Bagman has one interlock on the back door (probably open if your door is missing) and one on the front pcb access drawer. Goodluck I hope that does it for you! Bagman is a fun albeit difficult game.

A little electrical tape on the switch in back, and...It's ALIVE!

Thank you so very much!

So, does anyone know where I can get some fresh Bagman decals for this thing?

If you look at the box in the top left corner it says bagman. Don't remember if Rich finished this art or if it's still in production but email Rich of www.thisoldgame.com and ask if the art is available. FYI he is also a member here.

Also with regards to your switch issue, did you try pulling the center button into the out position? If the button will stay in the out position keeping the game on, then I would recommend pulling this switch out rather than taping it down. Tape will leave nasty residue over time. Especially electrical tape. Many folks actually unscrew those switches and move them in a few inches so the button can be left pulled in the out position weather the back door is on or off rather than have to be depressed by the back door.

FYI....you don't have it tape it. If you pull the interlock out toward you, it will be taken out of circuit and your game will be on without tape.

Edit: Looks like Dan covered it already.

.

A little bit of electrical tape, and Bagman is ON. Tough game.

Anyone know where I can get new stickers for the sides?

Sorry I posted the "working game" thing twice. I was having troubles with the site refreshing properly. I will try to contact Rich for fresh graphics. Thank you all! I'll be talking to you soon; I'm sure.

No more sound?

I went ahead and pulled most everything out and cleaned it with an air can and a very lightly moist rag and when I put everything together, there is have no sound. I did pull out the old light fixture because it was melted, but besides that, everything is as it was before.

Probably bumped a speaker wire, disconnect and reconnect the connectors going to the speakers.
