Here's one that never happened to me before..........
I finished up rebuilding a G05-801 and tested it in my LL cab. Comes right up, no issues what so ever. I adjusted the HV to 12kV and made adjustments to the brightness, then contrast, a textbook set up.
The display is beautiful then about a minute later - the monitor goes completly silent and the powerbrick in the cab is humming loudly, like it is under a heavy load!
I back track and unplug the HV cage and fire it up. The "under load" sound is now gone from the transformer and the monitor comes to life, (sans display). I have neck glow and deflection. I shut it down and reattach the HV cage and fire it up. Again the monitor is dead and the powerbrick is once again under load.
It appears that sometime died and created a very heavy current draw but none of the fuses on the brick opened nor did the one in the HV cage.
I pulled the HV cage and went over the basics and cannot find any semiconductors that are bad. Next I will go over the passives.
I was wondering if anyone else came across a situation like this, I dread to think what has happened.........
You think after so many years you would have seen everything.
Thanks
Jeff
