Grabbed an extension cord to plug in my work light and didn't notice I cut the plug and stripped the wires for hooking up a switcher. I Plugged in it without looking and grabbed the live wires!! 4th of July is a few days early for me.

Ouch!

And your wife is awesome for condoning a wedding band with Space Invaders on it :)

It didn't hurt as bad as it looks but it was sure loud and scared the hell out of me. So glad my hand got fried and not a game. My skin will grow back for free!

Ha, that's funny(not really). I just did almost the exact same thing 30 minutes ago. Went to plug in my soldering irons, grabbed the wrong cord and saw sparks as soon as I plugged it in. It was an old Williams cord I had taken out of a machine. The other end was touching a Commando board. If it wasn't fried before, it is now...

OUCH! Unfortunately, I've been there, but worse. I got zapped with 240vac 3 phase 400hz in the Navy. They sent me to the Doc immediately to make sure my heart wasn't going to stop. To give you an comparative, what you got zapped with was 110vac 1 phase 60hz (for the noobs that are unfamiliar with household wiring). It may be three phase. Some places are different. :)

I had the suction cup pop off a Vectorbeam Space War while it was running and I was trying to adjust the monitor (I had just got the chassis back from a repair). That was the best shock I ever had.

Next best shocks have been 277 volt in the air conditioner wiring at my old hotel job. Took that twice before I stopped trusting the labeled breakers and started looking for voltage with the meter before servicing.

I think the worst I ever got zapped, was I was helping a guy out fixing some of his broken games, and he had a Frogger that just needed the focus adjusted. So knowing it was a 4600, I figured I'd just reach around from underneath and adjust it, while it was on. So I stuck my hand behind the monitor, and grabbed the bottom of the flyback. With the game on. That was pretty rough.

I'm pretty sure now though that it's really harder than you think to get killed with a monitor, lol. If that didn't do it, the only step up from there is putting the anode in your mouth or something.

It's been a while since I've been shocked by anything.

Just two nights ago I tested the B+ on my Sanyo. I thought sticking my hand in there to get the alligator clip on would be a good candidate for a shocking, since I had just powered it down so the caps were sitting there like little asshole landmines, but I came out smelling like a rose.

6 months of heavy work on two Nintendo cabs, including stripped/bare wires in several spots and a bunch of monitor work, and I haven't suffered even the teensiest of zaps. Ha, I'm invincible.

I'm a electrician and work with all kinds of voltages. 277v hurts in a way I can't describe unless you have gotten in it before. Most department stores use it for overhead lighting which they won't allow you to turn it off to repair. Second best was a 25" monitor with a cracked flyback. My kids said I screamed like a little girl. Just my .02

I had my hand deep within Lanky Kongs 20ez while peering around the corner and holding a mirror with my other hand, and finally managed to adjust the sync.

I have no idea why they would put an adjustment that needs to be adjusted live that deep on the chassis.

I actually made her stick her hand back there on two occasions.

I can't trust anybody else's eyes, or a mirror, with my pot adjustments!

Ouch - man that looks painful - sorry.

My last shock was two weeks ago, I 'THOUGHT' by Paragon pinball machine was out, because the general circuit lights where out. I was putting the fuse back in and ZAAAAPPPPPP!!!!, Yep, it was NOT turned off.. Scared me more than it hurt.

Oh man, don't even get me started on the layout of this monitor.

It's as if the various pots and test-points were placed specifically to maximize hazardousness and emotional agony.

That's KLOV's best post of the day, right there! :)

I think my most painful shock was back in my early days of collecting, I had a GO7 that wasn't working after plugging it in. I pulled the chassis and decided to wipe the dust off that one little fuse to have a look at it and= POW!

My arm cramped up so bad and hurt for a couple days afterwards.
