I need to confirm something that makes 100% sense to me, but may possibly not be correct.

If a game gives a bad rom error, does that mean that the game will function/not function the same way if the chip is pulled? (i.e. Is a bad rom error "the same thing as" a missing rom?).

Or, do some games need to read that there's something in the socket at all just to boot up, even if the chip is bad?

Thanks for any help.

That depends...

The roms usually control 3 things :
Gameplay
Graphics
Sound

If your gameplay eproms are bad, the game won't boot at all.
(with or without the eprom in the socket )

Bad sounds or graphic eproms will "usually" still allow a game to play,
but you'll obviously have garbage on the screen or bad sounds.

Removing a bad sound or graphic erpom will only augment the problem,
but "should" still work.
(ie. if you only had "some" sounds, or minor graphic problems,
removing the bad eprom will likely eliminate all sounds and/or graphics )

Clear as mud ?

Cheers,
Steph
