Ok, so I got this Rampage and the monitor was going out of focus and I could hear the flyback arching, so I did a cap kit and a new flyback, and I still have really bad focus issues. Here is a video of what it looks like. Note that this is not a camera focus issue, this is actually what the screen looks like. I reflowed the solder joints on the neckboard, but Im not sure what to do next. I swapped tubes and it looks the same, so I know its not a tube issue.

The focus pin is the pin by itself in the neck board socket. You might want to take a look inside the socket and make sure that the wiper hasnt broken off of the pin. It could also have some sort of corrosion on it.

My guess is that your neck socket is bad.

1) Does the focus get better or worse as you turn the focus pot?

2) If you have a white "focus divider" wired in between the flyback and the neck socket, take it out.

3) It's possible you have a bad focus socket on the neckboard....

You may want to check too to make sure that your color pots aren't turned all the way up all around, I've had them before look like that when they were just way out of adjustment on the contrast and everything. If all of your color drives are way over the top, you have to adjust your screen voltage to a level where the focus can't dial in.

seconded. I saw this on a K7500 last year, I couldn't figure out why the hell I couldn't focus it... well, in addition to the contrast being overblown through the roof, the color trim pots needed a reboot. as well as the tube needing a rejuve, but that wasn't essential to fixing the focus.

I don't know if it's outlined in the K7000 manual, but the U5000 and K7500 had detailed (but with very strange geek verbage) instructions for white balancing the monitor. the instructions might even be the same, but I don't know if blue is also the primary color (as in the base color when you turn all biases and the red and green drives down) for the K7000 or not.
