SYMPTOM: The game ran with sound, but all sprites and backgrounds were completely corrupt. Unplayable.
SOLUTION: I started to take things apart and test the boards against my working Robocop PCB. I verified that the CPU/sound board was still okay, and that the problem followed my ROM board. Once I dug into that, I found twelve heavily corroded sockets. Thankfully my box of spare parts had a good looking stripped ROM board that appeared to be compatible. After moving everything over I found things were a little better, but I clearly had issues with bad ROMS. I had enough chips from scrap boards to be able to burn everything that looked suspect. After a night of erasing and burning the board is about 95% problem free. After a quick playthrough, I decided it was certainly close enough for now. I have good memories playing the game when it was released, but it is the poster child for JAMMA games with unavoidable damage that require a new quarter every 30 seconds. Glad to have it for those old memories and nice to save another board
