Bad Cats seafood wheel says "adjust switch 44"...help!

Picked up a nice working Bad Cats but the other day when I turned it on the game said "adjust switch #44" which is the seafood wheel. The seafood wheel spins but never lands on the right number and never seems to spin as long as it should. I reseated the connectors and checked out the wheel last night but didn't see any obvious issues. any advice? where is switch 44?

It's an optical switch, so if all the connectors are fine, it might be dirty, or a piece of something might be blocking it. There's a tab on the seafood wheel that passes through an opto-interrupter, which is a u-shaped plastic piece that has an infrared LED on one side and a phototransistor on the other. I think you have to unscrew the entire seafood wheel mechanism from the bottom of the playfield to get to it. You could try blowing air under the wheel to see if that blows something out, but if you need to clean or replace it, you'll have to remove the mechanism.

bad cats stepper wheel

well I cleaned the optic part and cleaned up the wheel and made sure it was on properly. No bad solder joints that i could see and everything looked fine. The game is still giving me the "check switch 44 seafood wheel". The motor spins when it is supposed to but it just doesn't spin long enough and the number dont seem to match up with what is displayed on the backglass and the insert light around the whee...so weird. Anyone else had this issue? From what I've been told other

these machines also use this stepper wheel
# BAD CATS
# CYCLONE
# DINER
# JOKERZ
# RIVERBOAT GAMBLER
# SCARED STIFF

anyone else had issues with a stepper wheel or stepper wheel pcb?

When you run the seafood wheel test in diagnostics, does an "H" flash on and off on the bottom line of the display? It should look like this:

Seafood Entre #
08 H ###

Where # on the top line tells what # on the wheel should be showing through the net, and ### on the bottom line is a pulse count that should go from 000-200. The H is on when the tab on the wheel interrupts the opto, and is off when it doesn't. If your H doesn't flash when the wheel spins, then the opto is likely bad.

You can also go into switch levels 06 or switch edges 07 and turn the wheel by hand. Seafood Wheel 44 should turn on and off as you make a complete revolution.

The schematics just call it opto1 and do not show a part #. There's also a 2N3906 transistor and 1N4148 diode which could possibly be bad.

Have you tested the other switches in the same row and column as 44? The same row includes right coin (4), "O" (of TOY) (12), bird target 4(28), right drain (36) and left jet bumper (60). The column includes Exit Tiger Ramp (41) and Exit Center Ramp (43). If any of these are also giving you problems, then the issue is likely a common component of the row or column.
