We're having about 45 people from my kids school over for movie in the back tonight. The game room opens at 8:00 and the movie is around 9:00 or so. But the games are still a mess...stuff everywhere. Cabs with their backs off all over the place. Parts strewn here and there. And the projector and sound system still needs to be set up. Chairs put out. A long way to go but we'll get it all done.

My wife bought $200 worth of candy last night, big popcorn tubs, sodas, light sticks.....should be a good time. Wish us luck that everything works right!

A few pics from last night's movie night. It was freakin' cold so we didn't have quite as many as we expected but we still have fun. More candy for everyone! I didn't take that many pics since I got busy:

Bubble Hockey was a hit until the plastic shield on the goal fell off and blocked the puck....now it's one more thing I need to fix. :( It's easy at least.

That is a cool idea. Just might have to borrow that one down the road. I love sharing and giving back to everyone, my favorite part of the hobby. Congrats, looked like it was a lot of fun

Looks like a lot of fun. Great idea!

This is how drive-ins got started...in some New Jersey guy's backyard.

Another backyard movie guy... cool. I've been doing for about 5 years now.. kids love it and its a lot of fun..

Currently I am using an old Epson business projector running through a dvd player and 2 500watt powered dj speakers.. I've got an inflatable screen thats a bit smaller than the one he has set up.. I want to see more of the movie setup :)

What "projector" do you use for this? VERY neat idea... I love it! :beerchug:

We just tried a new one and it work very nicely. It's an Optoma HD66. It's an inexpensive projector (around $600 if I remember right) and is very bright and clear. Highly recommended. I just connect a cheap $50 DVD player up to it and run it through an Onkyo amplifier and 4 speakers I bought for $25 at the swap meet a few years ago. The sound is great...the neighbors haven't complained yet, probably because we generally invite them over as well.

I can snap some pics of the screen if you like. I'm in the process of trying to obtain a better one. This is two pieces of blackout cloth (the stuff you put behind curtains) sewn together and stretched between 4 poles. It's good cloth because it's very white and doesn't let any light through....basically reflects it all back. I've already taken down the amp and speakers and chairs though but I can take more pics next time. We usually do this 5 or 6 time during the summer.

Very cool! Too bad the weather wasn't warmer.

So what was the movie? Tron?

It was mostly smaller kids this time and since the new Kung Fu Panda was just coming out we showed the original one. I've thought about showing Tron and...as I mentioned in another thread....I've thought about inviting fellow klov folks but I'm not sure how many people are close enough or would actually come. I'd love to do it if people would actually be here though.

Next time you set up the whole rig, take a picture.. I love seeing other people's ideas.. Have you ever checked out the BYT forums? Lots of cool stuff and ideas..

I have a roll of 60" screen material that I aquired a while ago. It works great for rear or front projection. I sewed a few pieces together and made a 20' diagonal screen.. I just haven't figured out how to make a good stand thats easy to set up and take down yet.. I've got plenty left if anyone is interested.. Blackout cloth is great, but expensive..

Wow! Looks like so much fun. Looks like you have a very happy and fun home. Love your candy collection with the nintendo retail rack. Cool shit!

John, looks like tons of fun!Too bad the weather has been crazy lately and cold. You defiantly have the room and space in your yard for that set up love that idea!
