So I went to test a new monitor I've had on the shelf for a few months.

Fired the monitor and pssssssst - C818 was venting. WTF?

Shut it down and looked over the chassis - sure enough, C818 (220uf 160v) is backwards. Huh? This monitor was working a year ago.

It WAS traded to a friend for a time, and then I got it back. I did NOT test it when I got it back, stoopid me. Anyway, water under the bridge now.

So now what? Replace the cap, obviously. But should I be worried about anything else?

This monitor had less than 5 minutes run time prior to this mishap. Grrr......

Yeah. More backward caps ;)

Go through and double check all of them, just to be sure. While you have the board out, you should be able to spot the ones that were replaced. The solder joints will look different. Go over and thoroughly inspect any work that was done to the board. If one mistake was made, more are very possible.

If you find any backward capacitors, replace them, don't just flip them around. They might not have seen enough juice to blow up, but they will have been damaged anyway by having voltage applied to them in reverse.

Couldn't agree more with the above post. I'd also be checking for any dodgy solder joints as the previous "repairer" was obviously a cowboy.

Did you find anymore reversed caps? Or did you just replace them all?

No, just the one was reversed. I metered the rest and they were all fine. I did replace the cap right next to it, since it was the same value (C809).
