Background music quits on PINBOT after it is on for awhile.

I have a Pibot that has been no end of trouble with random resets, speaker hiss, and sound issues. It's new problem is the background music quits if it sits in attract mode for 15 minutes or so. I checked all the connectors. When this happens, I open the coin door, and put it in test mode, cycle through all the settings real quick, and it resets, and the background music is back. I then let it sit for another 15 minutes, and it is missing the background music again. Test mode cycle will temporarely fix it again. Sone of the other sounds always work like pop bumpers.

thanks,
rick

I know this is simplistic and you probably checked, but,

Game Adjustment #48 - Attract Mode Sounds
this is set for "Alot", correct?

Will simply restarting the machine via the power switch restore the sounds, or do you need to cycle thru the adjustment switches to get them working again? Are you actually doing a factory restore when cycling through the switches?

Typically when something stops working after a period of time, you'd suspect heat/solder joint issues. But the fact that yours will immediately operate normally tends to discount that theory a bit.

works ok after power down and power back up..

Yes, the music works after shut down and power back up. It also always works after I cycle through all the settings in test mode. I do not reset to factory settings. I tried that, and it did the same thing, quick fix, 20 minutes later, 90 percent of sounds missing.

Any ideas?

Hmmm, well at least I'll bump you to the top so somebody else may be able to help.

I have a Pinbot, but have never had the need to dig into the sound board circuitry. But let's make some guesses...

When it goes "sound dead"....what happens if you push the "sound diagnostic switch" (Switch 1) on the CPU board?

When it goes "sound dead"....what happens if you run the sound diagnostic tests in the diagnostics menu?

I would also test the voltages - both when sound plays fine then after it goes dead. I don't have a manual here, but I think it's a -12v line (please confirm). I'm still thinking you are dropping voltage at some point, so this would be an initial attempt to confirm that. If voltages are dropping, try to isolate where that is happening - all the way from the power supply output to the sound board input.
