After just purchasing my second pin i realise i am going a possible degree in pinballology??. My first was obviously TSPP and in A1 condition. Not needing any work or maintenance.

MY second pin, JD, is a whole new ball game. Poblems a plenty. And this is where i ask a few questions. Currently my backglass doesn't light up. The bulbs all work but it's not on or illuminating duing game play nor during any of the modes? Can someone point me in the right direction as to what to look for please to fix.

And my crane is also not dropping the balls onto the playfield correctly. They are getting stuck when dropped into the deadworld. How do i adjust this to make sure it drops into that space its supposed to.

Thanx

Haven't worked on a JD in a LONG time, but the crane COULD (not saying it does) have an issue with one of the optics. IIRC, that machine uses optic switches all over the place. Could be you have a bad or dirty switch, or the actual mechanics of the crane assy. could be out of adjustment or loose/missing parts. If you have a manual, somewhere in there is a breakdown of all the assemblies in the game. Check and see if what you have looks like what the book says you should have.

Your backglass issue is a VERY common problem. Check on the Power Driver PCB (the big board in the lower right corner looking at the machine from the front). You'll see a bunch of connectors all across the bottom of the board. Guarantee one (or more) of them is brown/black and burned up. You'll have to repair the header (the pins on the board) as well as replace the connector itself. Unfortunately, this is a problem that WILL occur repeatedly (design flaw), but in a home use application, you should be good to go for quite some time before you'll need to worry about it (if ever).

Thanx for the info. Once you pointed it out saw the burnt out connector bright as day. As for replacing this looks relativley simple. As for the pins?? How do i remove them and replace them? I by no means have any idea when it comes to soldering crimping etc so i hope its easy enough.
