OK hope this is the right forum. I bought a Baby Pac and find the mpu corroded thanks to the battery. I buy a Stern/Bally ultimate mpu. I installed it today. I checked my board voltage at test pt. 2 and got 5.31 v . Anyway with the board installed after checking v I turn it on. The vid. screen is messed up. See attached pic. the pinball part plays great other than some burned out bulbs. I tried all 7 different adjusting knobs and the best I could come up with is what you see in the pic. Does anyone have any idea what to try next or does anyone know someone that makes house calls for this machine?I live in the Portland, Oregon area. Any help would be great. Thanks.

turn down the screen knob on your fly back your screen has raster lines.

it also appears that your synk is not hooked up correctly.
or just adjust your V-Hold and H-Hold pots

also take a pic of the monitor chassis so we know what you have in there.

Peace
Buffett

Here is a few more pics.

Monitor adjustments

Yes looks like the game didn't work so someone messed with all the monitor settings thinking that would fix it.

You are going to have to play with them to get the image correct. Looks like it will be ok though.

Note: Is the game playing correctly, sounds, etc? The battery damage could run down to the vidiot board too...

The vidiot board cosmetically looks good. I get ten flashes from the green bulb when I start the machine up. You said in your response that it looks like someone messed with it (meaning the adjustment knobs?) If you were talking about the adj. knobs, how could you tell they had been messed with and do you have a pic. of what they should look like? I have been fooling with them for the last few days and just can't seem to get the proper order.Thank you.

Baby pac monitor

A photo won't help you as every monitor adjusts differently.

First:
Your picture 4 shows the brightness & focus - turn down the brightness until those lines on the screen go away.

Second:
You picture 3 has the various adjustment knobs and they are labeled. Turn each a little at a time and watch what they do. You can't hurt anything and it is a good learning exercise. You should have it adjusted pretty quickly unless something is physically wrong with the monitor (I don't think so)

Third:
Once you get the screen back centered go back to the flyback (picture 4) and adjust the other knob - the focus. Move it back and forth a few times until you have it right.

NOTE: BE CAREFUL AND DON'T TOUCH THE FLYBACK, WIRE TO THE TUBE, ANNODE (SUCTION) CUP, NECK OF THE TUBE, ETC.

Good luck!

You sir, are the MAN!! I finally got it after adjusting the synch. knob on the Vidiot. You just saved me a $100 service call for a guy who would have fixed it in 30 seconds. I owe you a six pak. Thanks again.

Congrats!

I think you mean the sync knob on the monitor but congrats either way. Please put up a photo of the clear screen now.

- By the way all that other stuff about the battery & solder joints you should anyway to to keep the game running.

Oh and welcome to the Baby-pac owners club. Darren - PhoenixArcade has all the art for it if you are needing any. (even a new playfield!)

I did adjust the ones you told me to and the brightness one got rid of those vert. lines, but there is a sync knob (very small) that is above and in between the red and green adjustments on the vidiot board. Here are a few pics. of the screen. As far as I can tell the only things I need now are a few playfield lights and sometimes the right flipper keeps trying to exucute even after the flipper button is already depressed and the lock on the side of the control panel has no key. Do you know how to remove the lock ? Other than those problems this machine is just about mint. I do not think it got much game play.

Looks good!

Glad it all worked out. By the way you are still goofing up the terms. The lower circuit board in that game is called the Vidiot - it is printed right on it and the only adjustment on there is a volume control and a test switch. Only Baby Pacman and Granny and the Gators used this board I believe.

The adjustments you worked on were on the monitor.

Be sure to do the other things I suggested to keep it running smooth. You should probably also get a rubber ring kit and a new ball...

The vidiot does have a sync control and also color control adjustments. They are on the rh side of the board. Pic looks good, I just traded one of these. Cool looking game

baby pac

Yea this is my second one. The first was goofy all the time from battery damage.

This one I got lucky (really lucky it was free too)

Do you know a good way to break the lock on side of the control panel? And is the old mpu board good for anything? It has acid damage from the battery.

baby pac

Someone will buy the old board. Heck I'd take it if cheap enough. PM me and let me know what you want for it...

As for that side lock. I managed to jam a screw driver in it to get it open. Took awhile to find a replacement though. Someone on here may know the right lock to get.

that side lock

Note: The right way to do it would be to drill out the lock but this way...

After wiggling it as much as possible with the screw driver the clip that holds the lock to the wood gets loose. You should see the metal lock down bar moving along the edge of the control panel as you turn the lock.

If the control panel feels or starts to feel a little loose you are getting close. Sometimes you can press the control panel down/in toward the glass (careful not to break glass), This in tandem with turning the lock away from you and toward the game will open it.

Do you get what I am describing? If not I can take a few pics...
