Picked up a Baby Pacman yesterday, in completely unknown condition. Pretty rough inside

The playfield and front didn't seem that bad though.

I don't think this game will be ready any time soon, but I'm excited for it.

Firs thing I did was try to blow it out and clean out the inside. I'm trying very hard to not think about how much of whatever that crap is that I probably breathed in.

Unfortunately, I underestimated how fragile the bezel and the playfield itself was, and some of both flaked away.

I found almost all the missing pieces of the bezel, taped them back into place, and then triple thicked it. However, I'm not really sure what to do about the playfield.

The boards... Rough. There's a TON of corrosion on the MPU. I am not sure it's salvageable.

The battery was still in place when I received the game. The board definitely does not work. When I attempted to power the game, I got ten flashes from the Vidiot (Yay!) on the first boot, and 0 flashes on the MPU (No!) I then tried restarting the game and only got four flashes on the VIdiot (Noooooooo!)

I'm able to get into the Video test though, even though I can't get into the communications test. The coin door test button does nothing.

So I guess, the next steps seem to be cap that monitor, figure out what to do about the MPU, and see if I can get ten flashes back on the Vidiot (Rom failure?)

What's the best way to clean the playfield as-is without damaging it further, and then protect it against future damage?

You're welcome.

You're welcome.
Maybe after I sell some stuff first :S

Does anyone sell repro MPUs? If not and you give up on the original MPU you can send me the board and I'll use it to create gerbers so people cab repro it. Though that involves me stripping all the components off to scan it which is why I say "give up on", the stuff that's corroded I'd probably have to just snip off and desoldering will just take the pads and traces with it and if otherwise they'll probably never solder again. I like making files so people can repro failure prone, hard to get boards, it helps keep games preserved and usable, though if someone is already selling them I don't want to undercut their efforts.

I'm pretty sure these have already been reproed, both in function (alltek) and bare PCB form (twobits)

The Altek boards are quite nice. I've used them quite a few times in Bally pinball machines due to unfortunate battery-relared circumstances.

That said, if the battery leakage hasn't completely destroyed everything, these boards are pretty easy to repair and are pretty documented. New sockets go a long way with these mpu boards in regards to reliability.

I know there's such a thing as small eyelets that you can use to drill out and replace bad/missing pads, although I don't know a good source for the tool or the eyelets,

They make a "Dash 35" MPU which I think is a repro PCB or at least based very closely on the original.
