baby pacman - once you leave video mode, pinball doesn't start

test played one today. played fine for 5 minutes, went to the tunnel in video mode, and started pinball mode....

drained the pinball after making some shots, went back to video mode...then, i went to the tunnel to start pinball mode again, and the video locked up...basically did not go to the instructions to hit the right flipper to launch the pinball mode, as it had the first time without an issue.

rebooted 3 times. game boots fine. and plays video fine. go to the tunnel to enter pinball mode, and video locks up, pinball won't start...where to start troubleshooting?

MPU shows no corrosion, has modern lithium installed, it's a TNT machine sold back in 2000.

thanks in advance...

I just repaired my game which didn't work at all. I basically cleaned every chip and replaced the connectors from the mpu board. The connectors were green from acid damage. then I counted the led flashes on the Vidiot board and determined one of my rom chips was not working. I reseated it and now the game works great. Good Luck, it's a very fun game.

Man i had one of these that was doing the same thing, except mine would hang on the 'press flipper button' screen. I'm pretty sure it was a problem with the Vidiot board. I was 'working on it' for another guy, glad it wasn't mine, lol.

It's just a machine with a LOT going on at the same time, since it happens when the video and pin part are supposed to be talking to each other, I think it's something with the vidiot.

Good luck!

most likely one or more of the 6821's, i'd think. Its pretty picky about everything being right before it'll even boot. I've seen a bad 6821 cause the pin section not to respond to certain targets, so that' be what i'd think was happening. Was it still making the spacey sound in the background after you drained the ball? If so, i'd start with the 6821s.
