Just picked up a Baby Pac that is not working. There is zero battery damage on the MPU or vidiot board. When I turn it on I get 10 flashes from the Vidiot board but only get two flashes from the MPU. I have read through the guide and it says that if I dont get a third flash I have a bad 5101 ram. Is it possible that the game just needs this chip or is it more likely that there are other problems? Do the 10 flashes mean that the vidiot board is probably good?

10 flashes on the Vidiot indicate that it is working.

The question regarding the MPU is a loaded question. Try reseating the 5101 RAM first, then replace it and see what happens.

I tried reseating it already and it did nothing. Are these chips available anywhere besides mail order?

Check the socket, its often corroded since its so close to the battery. I have had some that looked perfect but when i desolderd it a couple legs fell right off.

I am with you here on this one Mike, but I would just replace that socket and call it a day. Anything in the "corrosion zone", you are just better off replacing it if it is suspect.

I agree 100 percent. If I remember right there are a couple larger sockets to the right that should be replaced also.
I actually upgraded all the sockets on mine to dual wipe and havent had any issues since.
