Well I bought a baby pacman. and had it shipped in . It was working great according to the prior owner. I plugged it in and it played 2 games and then when the pacman eats the first pellet after starting over from his start position. He instantly dies! and then he starts back at home base and then eats the next pellet and dies. then on his third try he eats the next 3 pellets and then the game is over. I have reseated the connectos until I'm blue in the face any ideas??

reseating connectors on this particualr game usually yields little result.

Start with the communications test.... what to the numbers indicate?

Also, sockets on these boards suck... It could be an intermittent ROM rocket.

Good luck!

Test switch is on the door... little red button IIRC...

There are several tests outlined in the manual. One is the communications test.

Look for acid damage on the mpu board and start looking in that area. Reseating acid damaged connectors usually helps none.

Well I pulled the MPU. could not find any really signs of battery damage. Battery is gone and a cap is in its place. Looks like several upgrades have been done to this board, But overall very clean board. I reseated the IC's and still have the same problem??

Hmmm.... Also, try setting all the dip switches to off. They have so many option switches that make the game act weird, on could be set wrong..

Thats all I got, short of pulling each eprom and verifying the contents.

Thanks! tried the dips , didn't change is U2 and U6 the main Roms ? It acts like its stuck in a loop? I'm thinking mine have been changed. They have these homemade labels on them.

It seems the issue is in the Vidiot board. Possibly a bad chip socket. Cleaned the Rom pins and it worked for 2 games then died again.

Jim

Some vidiots get f'ed up sockets from MPUs that get really corroded. Since the MPU was on top, it was a fairly common occurrence. I would inspect the sockets across the top of the vidiot and replace any that have signs of corrosion.
