Baby Pacman: Got it! (updated)

I found a Baby Pacman for $600. No pictures to post this time but the machine is in really good shape. It works great and only has some minor wear from years of use.

It's an unadvertised deal so nobody will know where it is or how they can buy it out from under me. heh

I have no idea what a machine like this is worth. Baby Pac's are a combination arcade and pinball machine so it is fairly unique.

$600 is a bit more than I would usually spend on a machine, but I like the unusual setup. Thoughts?

Seems about right. My buddy scored his for $400ish, and generally I see them listed between $500 to $900.

Update: I looked at the machine and the body is in great shape. Unfortunately, the pinball part decided to give us problems when I came to check it out. (Murphy's Law in action.) First the flippers wouldn't work. He cleaned the connection and got them functional. Then the ball hole pop-upper (for lack of better words) didn't work. Looks like the connections are corroded and it needs some serious electrical cleaner at the wiring harnesses and some TLC. Bottom line, got it for $300.

Congrats on the find! Looks like it's a fun game. I'd like to find one of those Gottlieb Mario pinballs that is somewhat similar.

Wow, $300 is a steal! Use the extra money and buy an ultimate mpu for it, thats probably what is causing your issues. Of course your original can be fixed but if its acid damaged real bad your better off replacing it.

Finally had some time to dig around in the back. I've been cleaning wiring harnesses and connections today.

The MPU shows signs that a previous Ni-Cad battery had leaked in the past and caused some acid damage to the board. Though the MPU appears to have been fixed and the battery replaced with another Ni-Cad. The vidiot board looks almost new, or at least newer than the rest of the machine and shows no signs of damage.

I intend to do the Ni-Cad to alkaline update soon, but I was wondering why I couldn't just remove the battery and leave it as is. Does this battery do more than just save high scores?

You dont need the battery if your not worried about the high scores. If you have signs of acid damage I would reccomend replacing all the sockets on the mpu. Even if they look ok alot of times the pins are corroded off under them.

Baby PacMan

I bought a Baby Pac about a year and a half ago. Picked it up for about 700 and a 2 hour ride. Great shape. Some minor issue.

This is a great game. My kid started playing it at the age of almost 4 and still wants to play with me with it. If little kids play this, regular pinball machines are much easier since the baby pac pinball part is pretty fast.

Anyway, good luck on the unit and have fun.
