My Baby Pac Man machine has a playfield with a lot of paint missing. Just curious if anyone has purchased the playfield overlay from Phoenix Arcade and installed it? How is the play affected, and how easy is it to install? Also, does the existing playfield have to be sanded down to wood or just as flat as possible before putting the overlay on? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

I have an overlay but have not used it yet...ended up finding one in good shape...Phoenix Arcades Quality is very very good as anyone will tell you on this site so you don't have to worry about that..Installing an overlay adds some additional work but for baby pac its the only option now as there are no new playfields being silk screened.....

Probably a lot of pinball guys on the Google groups could point you in the right direction as they are always redoing playfields...but basically getting it smooth and then maybe a primer for good adhesion of the overlay and then of course you would need to clear coat it with something to protect the overlay.

You have to take into account how much clearance you have for the parts to be reinstalled and make sure your holes stay clear for hardware when you clear coat...as long as you don't take too much off in sanding and don't do too thick of clear you have some small wiggle room for the hardware to still go back on properly but I'm no expert on this..I've sent a few playfields off to a company that clears playfields for you...they do a nice job..the wait time is long though and I don't know if they do overlays..I know they do touch ups and such and price based on how much work it needs..if you have new old stock playfield its a lot cheaper as the prep for them to clear is a lot less.

Last thing is typically you need to wait a month or several if you ask most pinball guys to let the clear really harden before using the playfield..
