A friend just bought an almost brand-spanking new B & K 490 rejuvenator. I've decided to document it since there is little information out there about it. First of all there are TWO distinct 490 models: the first one has analog meters and the last version is CPU controlled and has a completely different layout and different operating instructions. The analog one is called the "plain" 490 or sometimes known as the "490A". This model manufactured from 1988 through 2002. This is the one I will be discussing here. The digital CPU controlled one is called the 490-B and uses completely different adapters than all previous models. That model was made from 2003 to 2007.

My friend was lucky in the fact this plain 490 came with all of it's original paperwork & manuals. I will get around to scanning it all when I can. It did include a schematic and parts list. I took it out of it's case and guess what? It is exactly the same circuit board as the model 467. It even operates the same as a 467.

The adapter holder cover is held in place by four white plastic "push clips". These clips are flimsy and are often broken or missing allowing this adapter holder to flop around loose. To repair this is simple. All you need are four #8 by 3/8" long sheet metal screws and screw the cover to the holes the clips went into.

467 and 490 side by side comparison

Here is a 467 next to a plain 490. Only real differences are the 490 has a beefier case and a nicer silkscreen job on the control panel.

The numbers on the 467's circuit board are 302-156-9-005 DEFGH. The numbers on the 490's circuit board are 302-156-9-005 KLMN.

I'm going to try to get the schematic and parts list scanned on Sunday. The 490 appears to use the same capkit as the 467.

EDIT: I can confirm the plain 490 uses the exact same capkit as the 467.

Adaptor Pin Connections....

Greetings....
Please do me a favor: Can you tell me which pins on the 12 pin connector are connected to which socket locations on adaptors 23,24 and 31. This will help me greatly on building my own adaptors.

Thanks a bunch.

Thanks Ken....

Thank you Ken. They do help.
I read a post from some time ago that you scanned the factory manual for the B&K 467 rejuvenator. If I asked "Pretty Please", could I possibly get a copy of it?

Email address is: [email protected]

Thanks Again,
Dan Schmelz

Thanks Again!!!

Yes Ken, the info I need is there, as well as a treasure trove of information. You are a very valuable resource for us hobbyist/laymen on the subject. Thank you once again for helping me and everyone here. You have my gratitude.

Ken, thanks for documenting all of this. Much appreciated.

Scott C.

I have a few comments and a question about parts... I'm guessing mine is a 490 plain as well? I noticed that the one you have pictured has blue silkscreen and mine is beige. Mine has a much beefier outer case. Are they the same model maybe mine is a newer or older style case? Also, you can see my unit sits in some thin plastic shell inside the case that has had all its screws break through so my unit is floating around in the case and can fall out.

Anyone know where I can source a shell (maybe from a broken unit beyond repair)? I will for sure be capping this thing.

Yeh, that's a 490 plain.

You'll probably have to either find a parted out unit if you want a case. Maybe you could fabricate a piece of sheet metal to repair the busted out plastic? Or maybe buy a small aluminum tool case at Harbor Freight which you could mount your 490 into?

Yea, a replacement piece will be hard to find. It's a funky shape in there so fabricating something will be hard as well. I may find some thin metal and try to make a frame at least to hold in whats left of the plastic.
