A common problem on the B & K picture tube rejuvenators is the plastic case breaking. Typically, either the plastic lid latches break off or the plastic hinge breaks. Sometimes both the hinge and the latches break.

Here are pictures of the cure. Just buy some common cabinet latches and hinges at the hardware store. You can drill a tiny starter hole to get the screws in there.

So if you happen to buy a B & K rejuvenator on ebay and it has these items broken, this is an easy & cheap fix.

Cool! My 470 has broken latches that someone had use duct tape on at some point. Looks like a fun little project for this weekend. :)

Seems like this problem happened in the 467, 470, 480, and 490 models.

Best thing is the latches and hinges I show in the pictures is that it's a permanent fix. Nothing worse than having duct tape all over the cabinet IMO.

Cool... thanks for the pics. I keep meaning to do that to my 470, which has the same problem, but I never seem to find the time.

Yeah, I have been meaning to do something like this with my 470. The hinges haven't broken yet, but they definitely look about to. Another thing that goes is the foam in the top where the adapters are stored. Most of the foam in mine has crumbled.

Some people just buy a new piece of foam and cut it to fit the adapters to replace the rotted out foam.

Just as easy is to buy a cheap "fishing tackle" box and throw all the adapters in there too.

I haven't even messed with the adapters that came with my 470. I just keep my homemade #23 adapter plugged in. When I finally make a #31 I'll have to make use use of that foam.

Thanks for the post Ken. You have inspired me to finally do this to my 470 which has been busted at the hinges for years!

It does seem like pop rivets would be the fastener of choice, right? Screws seem like they would only work if you could get behind it an put a nut and washer on it. wood screws seem like an even less likely alternative.

Funny you should mention this Ken. I'm just finishing up a recase of my BK 470 rejuvenator. The lid broke loose off a 467 I had and sold to another individual so I gave him my 470 case (with 467 guts) and took the guts out of the 470 and transferred them to another case. I'll post photos and details as soon as I finish it up. I've been distracted by other things that needed finishing.

Here is a closer picture of the replacement latches I use.

Where the case "slopes" a bit, I use a stack of washers (usually 3 of them) under the latch to keep it straight.

I use # 6 by 3/8" long flat head sheet metal screws on the straight sections and # 6 by 1/2" long screws on the sloped section.
