Avoid Dataman at all cost!!! Horrible customer service!

Hey,

So I wanted to be able to programmer a wider range of devices than I was currently able too and I saw that the Dataman had the MEMPro which looked to be able to program everything I was looking to mess around with. So I ordered it, got it here, the packaging was amazing, very well done.

Only problem . . . I can't program a single eprom I have with it, it keeps giving my VCC Max error every time I got to program the an eprom. Ok so I email tech support, they ask me to run the two test modules that were included with it, I did and the programmer is reporting back fine, go to program an eprom, and I still can't program any EPROMs. I can put the same EPROMs in my Batronix BX32, they work fine, erase them, try again in the MEMPro, VCC Max error.

I emailed them again with a log file showing them them the error, and what I'm told is the device is working properly and I that I need to run more tests, I did that last night, still couldn't get it to work properly, emailed them asking for a RMA so I could return this programmer.

The email I got back was that until I could prove there was a problem with the programmer they wouldn't issue my an RMA. I can't program a single chip with this device and yet they tell me nothing is wrong with it.

Never again, I'm going to fight them over this, but this is ridiculous, just wanted to to let everyone know.

What a waste of money . . .

Have you tried another PC? I work for a company that makes PC hardware (no connection to dataman/eprom burners) and have been on the other side of this. We have customers that downright insist on an RMA replacement when we are 99.9% certain there is not a hardware issue, and we practically have to fight the customers to get them to allow us to fix their issue.

One Laptop and two desktops. Windows XP and Windows 7.

Love some laws over here.
Anything you buy per post-order or online you are allowed to return to the seller within 7 days without any reason at all and they have to give your money back.
Of course shipping costs excluded.

That's a pretty expensive programmer by the way, for that money you would expect better service.

Did you try just calling visa or your bank and filinung a chage back dispute? That is what you need to do, Visa will be on your side.

I've never done that before, I did pay for it with a Visa credit card, so I can call them and get them to help me dispute this charge?

Thanks

yep tell them its broken, and they wont exchange/return it. The bank folks place the burden on the seller to prove you have recieved what you bought.

The one my son has mentions that you may need an external power source, but so far no need.

You would think the support guys would have mentioned that to him if it was possibly needed.

Anything in your instructions that indicate you may need an external power source?

VISA will definitely help you out, usually just a call to get it done.

Chuck

If you are not using the external PSU then you need to. Not all USB ports are equal in terms of current they can provide, that fact that some people don't need the psu doesn't mean you won't.
