I just got done playing Avatar at the local bowling alley and got to "Final Battle" for the first time ever, and on my first ball no less. But, I thought I had to get a super jackpot to close out each mode in order to reach the wizard mode, which I know I did not get in every mode. Is there a second wizard mode in Avatar besides Final Battle like there is in TSPP?

You only need to finish each mode to keep it lit (flashing) on your next ball....so that you can reach Final Battle over the course of the game, and not just on a single ball. However, you can do it on a single ball if you light each mode...but you don't have to complete them. Final Battle is it.

I wondered what the flashing lights meant. I never noticed that they stayed lit. Still that is dissappointing. All new pins should have a second harder Super Wizard mode.

Gotta agree, that is a real let down. That is a HUGE deal considering how expensive these pins are. If you can hit wizard mode on one ball, well ..... that's just lame. IMHO a person should be forced to complete "not beat" every mode BEFORE wizard mode can be achieved.

Everyone has flashes of brilliance, lol. No reason that hitting a wiz mode on one ball should be completely unobtainable...but do find it odd that this one works just from activating all modes.

I've been through Destroy the Ring on LOTR at least 3 or 4 times on real table, once on the emulator (actually harder because of ludicrous ball physics and no perpective shifting...it's like you're playing as someone that's 4'2"..........wait.....I JUST FIGURED OUT WHY MY WIFE STINKS AT PINBALL! OMFG!).....but never even gotten close to There and Back Again, or god forbid, Valinor. LOL.

I know that you know better, but I am amazed on how many people I find that think DTR on LOTR is the end. Operators no less! Freaking LOTR is that dirty whore that I keep going back to only to be dominated every time. Funny you mention TABA, I've owned LOTR for about a year now. I have been there 20 or so times and COMPLETED it 2 times now.
That mode makes my hands sweat and shake so bad I screw the pooch heh.

The thing is, with games like Iron Man and Avatar - they're so wild that yeah, you MIGHT be able to get to the final mode on one ball...but that's going to be a HELL of a ball. You may drain all 3 balls in a minute or two. So - due to the fast design of those games, getting to the wiz mode on one ball doesn't feel like a disappointment...it's actually quite satisfying. It doesn't happen often for me (perhaps due to my settings vs. location settings). Yeah, Simpsons and LOTR have ultra ultra wizard modes...and guess what...I've been playing those games for 3 or 4 years and I CAN'T FUCKING GET TO THEM....lol ....so hey, they may as well not exist. :)

I've put over 1000 games on Avatar and have gotten to Final Battle maybe 5 times.

You know the hilarious part is that the FIRST time I fired up the pinball emulator on one of the two LOTR tables I have for it, I finished DTR. It was the one with the crazy ball physics. Was just like.. "WTF!!!"

The arcade I go to FINALLY had someone come out and "repair" all of their machines, only to find out last time I was there with my wife, they F'ed up one of the flipper assemblies and it was doing the EXACT SAME THING my Space Shuttle was doing!! Flipper not going back down all the way, not firing all the way, etc! Unbelievable!

They finally fix the damn magnet in the ring so it pushes the ball back to the ramp or releases it to POTD correctly, but you can't shoot the ramp anymore because the flipper is effed! GAH!!

Yeah, the one and only game I bought NIB was TSPP. And after 3 years, I never got to the second wizard mode without taking the top glass off and cheating, but the thought of completing every aspect of the game was what kept me playing. I never would buy a NIB pin again that only had one "Final Battle".

*shrug* ..it's just a different type of game. When I wanna "quickie" I play IM or Avatar...when I want an epic hour-long game I'll play TSPP or LOTR.

Note: Two highest rated Stern Games are TSPP and LOTR. Yeah, I always want an epic long game. Is that so wrong!!!!

No, not at all. Different strokes for different folks. I like all different types of games. I own TSPP and LOTR...I also own IM and Avatar. No prob, brothah! It's nice that there's a variety of games out there...we can all find something we like.

In case it did not come across, the "Is that so wrong!!!" comment was a homage from an old Jon Lovitz Saturday Night Live reoccurring skit and was not meant to sound aggressive or angry. Went to play Avatar today and got my a@@ handed to me.

I just played a game of Avatar ...got 150 mil on Ball 1...with Amp, Link, and Banshee completed (flashing) ...then ball 2 and 3 were gone within 20 seconds...lol.

Hey, who's got Avatar on location? I didn't think there were any....do they have any other cool games there?

They used to buy every new Stern pin that came out until about a year ago. At one point they even replaced LOTR and Elvis with the LE editions and between the bar, the alley, and their Lazer Tag next door they had 6 pins. Now it is one new pin a year. They recently switched over to token change machines(only takes dollars, not quarters) and put a bunch of redemption games in and removed all but two pins (Indiana Jones and Avatar). Gone are the staples they didn't rotate out, Revenge From Mars, Family Guy, Elvis LE, and my beloved Cactus Canyon.

Took pictures of my high scores but cannot seem to post them. Grand Champion- Vic 151,830,660 Final Battle Champion- Vic 59,550,000

My local bowling alley, Pinz in Studio City, also used to get every new Stern...but they stopped with Indiana Jones. The lineup has been the same since then - TSPP, FGY, IJ4, BDK, SM, and WOF. I talked to the op and asked him to get new games, but he said new ones don't make any more than the current lineup, so why spend the money.

Went to Gable House Bowl today to play some Avatar and noticed IJ4 was gone. In its place...Tron LE #260. Poured about 10 bucks into it and got the high score around 160M. Got to sea of tranquility twice. That spinning disc is a trip.

Wow, an LE on route!? I wonder who the operator is...must be a huge enthusiast as well...Belsito or Elwin?

I can't even afford a Pro and people are routing LE's...that's awesome..LOL....

I'll be in the corner with a beer and my 3DS lol...
