Aug 6 Mesquite TX Auction Roll Call

Not that I've noticed, if I know someone in the group is bidding on a machine I back off and vice versa. We all get along and just hang out :)

Oh, that's cool.

I fear going to an auction - catching more heat today from Mrs. Mame about the "scuffs on the floor" from the games I do have.

An auction run would only lead to more scuffs. ;)

I would like to go. What could I expect at an arcade auction? Do they have nice machine?
What price range do they go for?
I only have interest in a 4 player NBA Jam or a coin operated dart board.
Would it be worth driving from Houston with gas at $3.50+ gal I'm looking at $150+ for gas

Frankly, it is a crap shoot. I don't make the drive from Austin unless I'm ready to buy about 5 or more machines to make the cost of drive and hotel worth it. Good stuff typically goes for high $$. There are some exceptions but generally the rule. Biggest issue is you have to deal with the Sellers shill bidding their own stuff up to stupidly high prices.

I cant make it but someone please let me know if there are any cabarets there. If there is maybe someone can bid on it for me.

A room full of the same beat up junk from the same 3 or 4 guys - I'll pass. If you're a collector of classics the auction hasn't been good in years.

Once I caught onto Super Auction's shillers I stopped going all together. And, couple the shilling with the 8.25% sales tax, 15%-20% buyer's "premium" and the ~$4/gal fuel you might as well find/buy/ship exactly what you want from someone on the forums.

Now, if you're just going to browse 8 rows of junk cabinets, 4 rows of huge drivers/shooters, 3 high stack of skill-stop slot machines, 6 rows of jukes and redemption machines, 1 overly loud lame DJ and hang out with people - that's a completely different situation :)

And that's what makes it fun! (the description probably sounds like most of our storage units.....other than the skill stops and jukes).

Was on the fence but these numbers swayed me - pass.

My wife said she'd put this pic on a T-shirt for me to wear at the auction. :)

I'm crossing my fingers she finds time to do it. :)

May be cruising back from WV by then, could take the ultra scenic route home and check out the auction if things somehow work out that I'm in the area.

I already got 3 pins this month and am beyond out of space until I sell some stuff again though... and those auctions are always a complete disappointment, have been for about 4-5 years now. :/

Oh, oh, come to think of it I will be driving from TX to WV and back. Anybody wanna pay to have some stuff shipped, or got some projects I may want? I think a thread is in order...

You need to go to an auction run by these guys. Some better stuff showing up. 10% buyers premium. Shilling is allowed so get over it. If the price is too high, watch who is shilling it up and meet with him after the bidding cools down. You can sometimes make a better deal in the parking lot. I go to meet with other KLOVrs, work deals, swap parts, play some games I haven't seen in years, and find out what other people are looking for so I can keep my eyes and ears open for them.

Market is pretty dead right now so there are deals to be had. As far as the competitive bidding among KLOVrs goes, if you know who is there and what they are wanting, I usually talk with them. There are very few pieces I absolutely have to have. I usually just hang back and watch. Otherwise, I tell them I am interested and how much I am willing to go. I ask how much they are willing to go. I wait until their limit is reached and don't start bidding until they drop out. If they are willing to bid more than I am, they know that from the start. If the piece goes for less than their max, they leave happy and I wait for the next one to show up at a future auction. That's just how I handle it. I also like to know what they are bidding on so I can give my opinion on a piece. On more than one occasion I have had some things pointed out to me that I missed. Like a monitor with Pacman burn in a Tempest cabinet. (Sheesh, how did I miss that?) Also some things like a board set in the cabinet that didn't work that they might have seen when the seller was in there earlier trying to get it going.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Is this auction not run by the same Super Auction crew from past years?

Last I saw Super Auction charges 10-20% premium depending on payment method.

My understanding it is mostly the same Super Auctions guys under a new name and license, whch means they operate the same way they have for years. It's all they know.

Don't forget the 8.25% Sales Tax on top of the buyers premium which is 13%. They only give a 3% discount for paying cash over credit.

Has anyone gone out to the auction preview today, and seen what's shown up so far? We need a report with pictures if at all possibly.

Turbo Sub cabs spotted!

No boards however :(

Shawn and his brother spun up an auction company and are doing it. You'll recognize Shawn, David, and a number of the other guys from the SA days. If you talk to some of them they are still VERY sore about bouncing paychecks and missing paychecks - just like the sellers are pissed at SA for bouncing checks and missing money.

So far, so good on vendors getting paid and sellers are happy with that. Happy enough that they gave SA a massive screwing the last time they came to town.

Only time will truly tell, but so far these guys are doing it right.

Yea I heard the last and only time SA came to Texas was the weekend before AAA held their auction.I remember seeing a couple of pictures from the SA auction and there was only a hand full of games.
