What are some general tests that I could conduct to see what the problem is with sound in a machine? I have a Double Dragon and Neo Geo 2-slot MVS. Both work, but both have no sound. The Double Dragon has a loud buzzing sound whose pitch changes when something in the game changes, which tells me that at the very least, it is getting a signal from the PCB. In the Neo Geo I used to be able to hear some sound coming out of one of the speakers, extremely faint, but it was there. Now I don't even get that. So what do you think?

If you are getting a hissing sound from the speaker on the DD, I'm pretty sure the speaker and amp. are OK & it's getting +12V.
Maybe check the -5V or its probably a PCB problem.

VERY common issue on the 2 slot boards. Plug headphones in and see if you get audio that way. You probably need to recap the audio section of the board. I sell cap kits for that on my website.

Ok, so actually the audio on the Neo Geo still works, but it's so faint that it's impossible to tell. The buzzing of everything going on inside makes it impossible to hear. When I plug in headphones (in both slots) it is extremely difficult to hear, almost as faint as with the speakers.

Yes... MV2F is a newer version board with some differences in the chipset. They still operate the same though.

so the MV2F guide would apply to an MV2 as well then right? Because the guide on MV2 doesn't have a picture and it just says "xx" as opposed to a number. I don't know if I have an MV2 or an MV2F, I just want to be sure that I can properly do this before I buy the kit (not that it's expensive, but being a college kid limits me... and judging by your signature you can see where I'm coming from, haha)

Hmmm...

I'll dig and see if I have an MV2 board here. If I do, I'll update the instructions. But, it's not too hard to replace the caps without the guide.

On the 2 slot, there are only 2 of the 470uf caps that get replaced. Those are the ones that you can follow the traces back from the edge connector contacts for the speakers to. The other 470uf ones in that section don't get replaced.
