Was working on a game today which somebody "fried" with a wet power outlet. (reason 875 not to have a cat in the house: cat urine sprayed in the outlet is a conductor)

25" Hantarex will not power up, replaced fuses, no good.

Switcher Power Supply stopped pushing DC, swapped out, now game works but

Audio is faint and there is a ticking that make a popping sound in the speaker, very regular rhythm

Swapped out 3 different PCB sets, same symptom. Tried swapping out Aux Power, same symptom ARRGH!

If it has a marquee light try disconnecting that and see if anything changes. Since the problem started at the power outlet, I would look at the things that are closest to the power input.

Marquee lights many times will power up when the rest of the machine will not. If it gets better then something is wrong with light.

Also the monitor is another thing that is close to the 110 power so I would look at the monitor board and all electrolytic cap.

Since you know the boards are good, try going from the speakers back. Check the connectors to the speakers and wiring.

Sometimes if there is another additional wire hooked up to one of my test rigs (on the speaker output) it will make a hiss or a chirp.

Op Thunderbolt sound issue

I just got a Operation Thunderbolt from a guy and fixed it up. It works/looks great, but the sound kinda goes in and then out with like a pop. You can hear the sound of the game but only like a sec at a time. Is that the same problem you had? both my speakers do it so I think it is the sound on board or the wiring to the speakers....like some weird feedback loop. I haven't tried to reset the chips on the PCB either. Also If you haven't got that monitor working yet ..it has a replaceable/interchangeable adjustment remote thing for H Pos Vsize ect.. if that is not plugged in it wont work. Mine had one with a long ribbon cable that went in the coin door and an interchangeable one that had no wires and just sat right on the chassis.

Sounds like it

That description matches. I hear the pop and then I swear I hear the game very faintly, but a second at a time might be right , my hearing is terrible.

I am trying to find a pair of these to replace in the Op Thunderbolt. This should fix the problem.

A pair of speakers? It seems odd that that both would go in and out at the same time since they are on separate channels. My hearing sucks too but I know what you mean it is hard to tell. Well first one to finish tells the other good luck.

I was just thinking the DC on my power supply was out as well when I got it as well. Do you have PCB schematics?

ahh the link didn't post...yeah the Op wolf ones have two fuses and 4 diodes after the bridge rectifier....a bit different but I wonder if they are interchangeable? I have 2 extra of the op wolf ones wonder if they would be nicer ....perhaps do a little upgrade....please advise (they both work for sure)

I just looked at your link closer and saw it's the same as the two I have from Op wolfs. The two in my Op thunderbolt only have one fuse a cap and a bridge rect. I would like a second opinion before attempting a switch out. I would hate to fry the game just to try to fix the sound.

alright I just did it......not a thing changed both channels sounded the same in out poppy mermers. I guess we can check that one off the list.... at least we didn't have to buy any.errrrrrrrrr

Disappointing, but at least it was not costly.

I expect the Op Thunderbolt is a scaled down version of the Op Wolf board. That game just need the +13, not the -12

Wish that had worked.

actually it's the other way around the op thunderbolt boards look like nothing compared to the op wolf ones. The pic you posted is what my op wolf ones look like the op thunderbolt amps are way scaled down. i will post a pic on my vaps page asap will let you know when. but if you think about it the chances of both going out at the same time....just sain....i think its on the board ...I know an old technician I know worked on theses he is a bit of a head but I will ask anyways it could have been common.....20 years ago

WOW ...can I read?

I must have been real tired when I responded to that last post. I took what you said all backwards if I even red it at all... weird ....yeah it was disappointing ...Dude had no ideas we haven't tried already. I have a friend whose dad is real into ham radio and stereo amps ect...I will see if he has any ideas...I got Operation Wolf working perfectly last nite (again) I would love to have the sound on this one errr

update: I just ruled out he transformer(to the sound amps) and I tried a new sound volume pot. It still skipped. I would like to try a known working one. Some schematics would be nice....got any from around the sound area of the pcb?

Update: I capped the whole board...and replaced the socket 14pin amp chip...I think it's the chips on the heat sinks I have two working ones on a operation wolf sound board I just got going to try I think

Update: not the amp chips on the heat sinks put them on an op wolf board and they worked fine

Any update on this? I have an Op Thunderbolt with the same audio issue, other than that it plays fine!

I have traced it down to the small 8pin(think) socketed chip by the sound amps. if it is not that it must be an IC that isn't socketed...but I think thats it...need to find one. A lot of boards come though where I work and I was hoping to find one on a board, but no luck I will just order one here soon and let you know if it works and if so where to get one.
