I'm a novice collector that tries to find good deals, use my machines, and sell again to buy something else. I in no way try to make large profits off these machines or try ripping people off when I do resell.

I went to a local auction, and hours after the auction I see the items on Craigslist for 3-4 times the price they paid at the auction.

I feel for the casual collector, this is unfair and something needs to be said to these guys.

How do you convince people that have things incredibly overpriced that the games are not worth what they were brand new?

You don't. They find out over the next few years... :D

I usually keep my opinion to myself but this is my take. If you price things too high nobody will buy it so it doesn't matter where I bought it. If its to cheap then they got a deal and I learned something. I do frequent the auctions on a regular basis with that being said I very seldom keep the stuff I buy [except for my Tapper which I probably over paid for with fees and tax 525.00]. A perfect instance was the last one I attended, I spent 280.00 in fuel, 12hrs on the road [round trip],at least a hour loading and 9hrs watching them sell dumb shit to get to the games. Sorry that's not free whats your weekend worth. I picked up a simpsons bowler at the last kingsport auction that was so bad it fell apart loading and the monitor fell out on the way home I did manage to save it. Should I have sold the working pcb, disk drive and 25" wells not to mention the trackball and the power supply for the 5.00 bucks I paid other people had the opportunity to buy it but didn't not 1 other bid. For what its worth I don't buy and sell to make money but something has to help support this habit.
Thanks for reading my rant Tony

It doesn't matter to me what someone buys or sells their games for. It only matters to me what I can buy or sell my games for.

What is a arcade game worth?

It a big wooden box. That sits and takes space. It only plays one game. It uses old tech stuff to run. It gets you a more expensive electric bill. There are a lot cheaper ways to play games.

I know you get upset seeing someone who buys a game so cheap and sells it for a higher price. For those of us who can not be at every auction it worth it to pay a higher price.

Just like the antique radio market. When the customer base goes into retirement. The amount of demand will drop off. The only customers for these big box games with extra low resolution screen will be grand kids who remember their grandpa playing these games Laughs.

You don't. Just ignore them and go on with your life.

If it was a buddy that picked the game up on the cheap I would expect to pay their cost plus a little extra for their trouble. If its someone that I don't know, I expect they want "top dollar"

when I sell stuff, Its nice to make a little cash( this hobby is soo expensive)
but if its a brother from another mother, I'm gonna hook them up

Crack me up

I love how when it's some one else's game its always way over priced and that guys nuts bla bla bla. But when it's your game it's a different story. Everyone want to bitch and complain about some guy trying to get the most out of his game. There isn't a person on here going to let one of their own games slip away in the same price range they want to buy for.

They are buying these games on speculation that they can get more. They may or may not. It's just that simple. If the prices are too high, then they won't sell them. I've been seeing a pin for sale on craigslist that I'm pretty sure was purchased on this forum for a bit less. So far though, no one has taken him up and he keeps relisting. He took his chance and it didn't pan out. Same with the people at the auctions. They may or may not be able to flip it at that high price. They may sell a few at outrageous prices, but chances are they will sit on them and have to relist a bunch of times.

"Excuse me, sir - please stop making money. It's not fair. Kthx."

I don't own a truck and since I work out of town during the week I don't want to waste an entire Saturday going to an auction. But, if something I want pops up and it is within a range of what I am willing to pay, who cares how much the buyer paid at auction or if he is flipping it the next day? If I don't want to buy it, I don't have to and I can always go to the auction myself, right?

We're back on track to agreeing about everything again ;)

This sounds an application letter to attend the next KLOV Price Police Academy.....:D

There are a bunch of people who do this not only with auctions but on craigslist as well, heck they don't even wait for the ad they bought them from to run out before they relist them.
Greed is greed plain and simple, some people have more than others and there is no changing them.

My favorite is when someone buys a game then resells it for a profit using the same pictures as the original guy. I won't knock people for trying to make money but have some decency. haha!

When someone sells an item below market, It's called a bargain and we get to hear it on this forum. You know you bought an item way below the market price. Rarely does anyone pitty the seller. Rarely does someone give more than what the seller is asking for.

When a Seller sells an item at what they consider a fair market price is it greedy to do so?
If they sell it great for them if not we don't weep for them. It just the market dictating what the market will bear. I look at the prices of arcades going up as a good sign. It means the classics I have are worth a little more. I hate to think that the vaule of the arcade games we have put so much time into is worth less as time goes by.
