Auction in Anaheim CA 3-9-13

They've upped their game in terms of having more classics onhand for their auctions. Some of them are rare and in good shape, too. Check out this Round-Up from the last one:

Good to know. KidVidiot made a comment that suggested all the games were trash, which was hard to believe. Wish I could make the trip down for one of these someday. Some games were going for like $50-100 complete.

To be fair, a majority of them are IMHO.

But their stock has improved significantly over the last year or two, I'd say. They've had games like Eyes and Tazzmania cocktail tables, some worthwhile pins, etc for the auctions. Definitely worth checking out.

Looks like I'll have to give it a look this time its in town. When I had mentioned it previously on these forums, it sounded like the only things they had to bring to the table were trashy ticket redemption machines and huge racing games nobody wants.

Hmm, I don't think I've ever said all the games are trashed as a blanket statement for every auction, just a few of the auctions in the recent past have definitely been subpar when it came to condition of the classics. If you don't check them out in person and just go by the online bidding picture, chances are you will definitely be surprised when you go to pick up the game.

There are definitely good deals to be had at every auction, although they've been fewer in number these past 6 months or so. If you want a Blitz or a Hydro Thunder or Rush or Turkey Hunter etc, you can get a good deal. Many non-super popular classics are also good for getting cheap.

Pins have been getting crazier and crazier so chances are there will be no deals to be had, except for possibly some less popular non-dmd SS titles.

Really as long as you check out the game in person and see it turned on/played it, you are good to go. Just remember to add 25% to the final gavel price if you're in person or 28% if bidding online.

Yeah, didn't mean to misquote you. Just meant that I remember you saying something along those lines. But both you and Pook confirmed that the games may/may not be rough and it really warrants checking them out in person. Looking forward to seeing how this one goes.

Can anyone who is planning on being there in person check out the condition of the NARC machine and let me know how it is? I will have family in town from out of state and won't be able to attend. PM me if you can help me out, thanks!

Ya, that's my Roundup. It's so funny, I had never heard of the game and just really wanted it because it was rare and in such great condition. Then I noticed it was called "Roundup" which fits my arcade perfectly as I am part of the RetroGaming ROUNDUP podcast team :)

It really is a fun and very challenging game and I am glad I picked it up. There were some nice classics at that auction.

Auction with over 50 pinballs in SOCAL this Saturday

Guys, I just got this flyer, and I must say it looks pretty interesting.

A game auction with over 50 pinballs? Man, the last time I remember an auction with that many pins was when Gene Cunningham decided to sell some of his scraps, and that must have been 10 or 15 years ago. Even the Pinball Expo auctions didn't have this many.

My question is, where is the guy getting all of them? I'm out buying games all the time and I'm lucky to find 1 or 2 pins anywhere. It's like they are all gone.

I love the auctions around here, but they rarely have more than 3 or 4 pins.

Anyway, I've heard good things about this guy at Captain's Auction Warehouse. I wish I were closer.

But actually, it looks like he is hooked up with Bidspotter.com, so maybe I'll bid online. Supposedly he ships stuff all over and has pretty good rates.

Anybody else ever go to one of these? Is it as good as it looks?

You don't need to wait for the auction to make offers on this stuff. That place is open every day.

Captain Chris is on KLOV but I have not seen him post in a long time. As has been mentioned many times these pins typically go for pretty steep prices for an auction...but that is what the marketplace will bear. Could you flip them for retail prices and still make money? Possibly. There were instances of same games showing up a few times (presumably buy backs) but you don't see as much of that anymore. People who have been sitting on pins are seeing what he's been getting for them at previous auctions and have decided to sell. With this many pins there might be a deal to be had...I guess that's what keeps people showing up. Sometimes the pins are in decent shape, sometimes they are beat up route veterans.

Call the place and make offers on what you want. They might make you a deal now before the auction. It's not a secret - other people are doing it.
