I went to this fiasco today, dont think Ill be back to one of thier sales. Heres the web page for this sale http://www.auctiongamesales.com/A&BSUPERSTORE.htm
cut and paste from the page "Buyers can expect over 1,000 items including more than 250 arcade games – of which at least 12 are Ms. Pac Man. There are over 100 pool tables, pool table lights, more than 200 cues, as well as pool table supplies

of the 12 ms pacs, 1 was a dedicated cabinet, probably the worst cabinet Ive ever seen, one was a pacman cabinet (yellow front with ms pac stickers on the sides), one caberet. The rest were other machines with ms pac boards installed, including 2 Zaxxon cabs, ect.

except for the multis, most games sold for $50-250 (the very few decent condition games brought more, but most of the games were ragged)

when they got to the pool tables (of which I only saw around 25, they must have counted the lights and tables together) and supplies, things changed. The bids on most tables started at $1000. (a few had starters of $600) If the auctioneer didnt get the starting bid, he passed the item, he wouldnt accept any lower bid (remember, this is advertised as a liquidation sale). Same way on the lights, no bids below $100 were accepted. Same way on the pool cues, and any other new stock.

they passed by a bunch of new stock without even trying to sell it. one guy asked about some brunswick mirrors stacked there, auctioneer says it takes $100 to start, guy says no. I say yes, auctioneer looks at me, says 100, looks over my shoulder, says 125, back at me, says 150. I say no, and look behind me. Theres noone there, Steve23 is beside me and says "Not me, that was pure shill".

I was bidding against another buyer for some tables, 6 tables, choice out. Only 2 of us bidding. I stop at 120, tables sell for 130, buyer takes 4. Without asking if the backup wanted the others, (which they did all day when the items brought what they thought was acceptable) he immediately turns around and askes the guy behind him to give him 90 for the remaining pair (not apiece) and immediately knocks them off to him

I could go on but Im just too disgusted after driving 200 miles for this crap

Auction Game Sales is fine, it's the place that can bid up their own stuff but that's the rule at most auctions...they had pics of all this stuff on the website beforehand that is why I didn't go

yea, a lot of the stuff that was pictured wasnt there, off the top of my head the wooden bar and stools set, theres an asteriods in one of the pics that wasnt there, none of the dart supplies were there, ect

if they had of bid the stuff up it would have been different. point in fact was that they would not accept a bid that was lower than what they wanted. I remember one pool table they said took 600 to start, guy called out 500, they said no, tried again to get 6 then passed the table. They had odd barstools, one each, no pairs. Said 30 to start, woman bid 25, they passed them

collector that lives there told me the owner has another store by the interstate, he was only closing this one. That told me he was using this sale to get rid of the crap and keep the new stuff to move to the other store

Most of those liquidation sales suck that's why I didn't go. But besides the god awfull check out at there auctions all the people are friendly and helpful I think there the best I've been to.

I managed to get some decent deals on some huge projects. Picked up a Wide-body mario bros, a Street Heat DK JR cab, a Robocop (with brand new CRT, ZING!) and 3 cocktail tables, one of which was a Radar Scope.

I missed out on a Killer Instinct 2. Pure BS.. Auctioneer wasn't getting a bid at $100, so I said $75... then he drops the gavel and points at the dude beside me, sold for $125.. telling me "this isn't a polish auction, we don't go backwards".
I don't quite get what happened there, but oh well, I went expecting crap and came back with a trailer full of... crap. lol.. but cheap.

It was nice to see wildwest there, certainly helped the time go by.

When you go to these things, you just have to be prepared to be part of a circus. I've always had a good time and usually get some good deals.

You've been attacked by the auction ghosts again. Super Auctions had a thing for spotting invisible bidders throughout the room as well.

Yeah, pretty crappy if you ask me, but,, it's life.

Frankly, I havent seen this happen @ kingsport. Yes, owners shill bid. But the auctioneers seem fair and I havent seen the invisible bid man. They will definately keep lowering the bid until someone bites.

Is it the same company?

Glad to hear you got the widebody. That was the only thing in that end I was interested in and I knew you were after it, so when they started that way I snuck out to beat most of the crowd to checkout.

The event itself wasnt bad, had a good time and saw several friends, billyc, steve23 and a couple others, and was introduced to several other collectors, friends of friends, that have parts I need, so it was a productive day.

No, shilling is expected at any auction. They didnt even go thru the motions. This was an advertised liquidation auction, another word for absolute auction. That means everything sells. You lower the price until you get a bid, if you dont get a bid you combine the item with the next one. at the end of the day theres nothing left but the empty floor, it sells whatever the end price was. If the owner doesnt like the price he has to buy it back, there is no "Passing".

all the staff were very helpful and friendly, but this was an inventory reduction sale, and not an absolute sale as advertised. If it had been advertised correctly I would not have drove 3 1/2 hours each way
