Anyone that has a qbert, if your machine has the sound board with the piggyback pcb on the sound board I would like to know the part number on the knocker coil.
According to gottlieb literature, the late build machines used the piggyback board which ran on lower voltages. I need to find out if they changed the knocker coil so it operated correctly. If I can get a part number of the coil it would be a huge help.
Here is a picture of the sound board that has the piggyback amp board installed.

Sorry, mine is the old model. But my wife thanks you since I had to move my "to do" pile to check the board and turned down the volume again.

Thanks Troy. Thats similar to the bulletin I have but neither say anything about the coil. The knocker does not work with this mod, thats why I want to verify if they used a different coil on these.
I dont think alot of qberts came with the modified sound board but have heard alot of the cocktails used it. I made up a batch of the piggyback boards but dont plan on selling them unless I can get the knocker working with it. I have tested with an original modified power supply and sound board and also my reproduction with the same results.

I wonder how many are out there. I have never seen a qbert with the modified sound board in it in my 13 years of collecting....and I've seen quite a few. Although I have gotten a few SB's in for repair, I just convert them to the original set up and modify the PS accordingly.
It may be that they just didnt care about the knocker. Qbert would have been the only game that it would have affected. I guess you really just need somebody with a modified and see if the knocker works and if so what the part# it is. :)

Sorry mine was pieced together from many machines, i call it Frankenstien!

Yeah, I havent seen a qbert with one in it but have had several sound boards and power supplys with it. The sound boards were fully populated like it would be for qbert and all had qbert roms so no reason not to believe they came from a qbert.

Braido, my machine was a frankenstein too. It was totally gutted when I got it. I have bought and sold a few since this one but can never get rid of this one because of all the work I put into it.

Yeah for sure I will never sell my Qbert like you said too much work went into these monsters. Everytime I look at it now I smile and shake my head at all the work it took to convert it back. At least it isn't am Arknoid anymore, ha!

I do have two extra sound boards. I can take some photos of them tomorrow.

I dont need pics of the soundboard, need the number off the knocker coil of a machine that came with the modded sound board.
How about this, post the number of your knocker coil.

I'm betting (with the piggyback mod), they did away with the knocker. It doesn't matter what size of coil is put in there.....I don't think 15 volts is enough juice to fire it.

I'm basing this purely off of pinball solenoid operation.....and it's 100% my assumptions (meaning, I could be wrong :)).
