I'm in the position where I can potentially purchase a Dragon's Lair in excellent condition.
I remember them as a kid and always thought they were cool, but have NEVER played one. I tried to download the rom and play it, but it doesn't work.

So three questions...
1) How much does a nice Dragon's Lair run?
2) How much different is it from say a normal JAMMA game as far as maintenance? I know it has a LD.
3) Where is a download that I can try and see if I like it. Tried the MAME, but it doesn't work for me.

I paid $1200.00 for mine fully restored with the limited edition DL disc and the converter/disc to play Space Ace. I have had it for a little over a year with no issues. I think I got a good deal. The prices seem to vary with location and obviously condition, but I would expect to pay $800.00 - $1600.00..

Ask if you can rent it for a week Rick, this should be about all you need. Once you figure out the pattern, it takes about 12 minutes to run through the game and it's over. Seriously, don't waste your money.

Good input Gorf. So around 1K isn't out of the question.
I just want to play it so I know if I like it!

Do you have a WII? Buy the trilogy pack. You can actually choose the option of arcade mode. It is pretty damn close obviously without the cab and joystick...:)

Yeah, it's a lot of cash. I could probably get 3 other cabs that I want for the price of that one. Plus, I don't like the idea of having "new" (OLD) technology to fix if it breaks. I like my JAMMA set ups!

I have a restored Dragon's Lair and I am about 30 minutes from you. My DL is not setup right now due to eternal lack of space issues, but the game is out there in a million different formats. Really the only reasons to buy one are to flip it or if you have fond memories of DL, which it seems like you don't and a grand is not a good flipping price. $1,000 is about right on price depending on condition. I was offered $1,500 for my DL and Space Ace LD and I turned it down. I just wasn't ready to sell. LD players can be finicky, but if you have a good one, a DL is no harder to keep working than a JAMMA game.

That's great advice Les. And I don't have a passion for DL, I just remember the game as a kid and thought it looked cool. Again, I've never played it so I can't comment on the game play. I agree that the price is way too much for something to flip.

Les, can I come over and plaaaay?

You can, but I have to get the game setup. It is wrapped up in the corner of the garage and the LD player is in the house as I didn't want it out in the cold during the winter. Now that it is getting warmer, I have to clean and organize the garage and all the other games I have in there too, so they can actually be played.

...and I belive it is just over 6 minutes to complete the game if you make every move perfect and never die. Funny thing is, I am not even good at it, as I have barely had a chance to play my own game. :(

Dragons Lair is a love/hate game....either you love it or you hate it. (like most LD games)
I personally would love to own one for it's nostalgic reasons, not for repeated gameplay.
I've played it, beat it many times, would love to have it running in the background of my little 'cade, but certainly not one I would play on a regular basis.
Not one I would spend a ton of money on. I'll Daphne one up before I spend a chunk of change on one.
And this is coming from a DL fan that has it on several gaming platforms.
