Attempting my first "official" restoration (Frogger)
Hello
I am a noob here but have been in the arcade/pinball scene for a long time. I generally have just bought and sold stuff for my collection, replaced the occasional CPO or side art did a few repairs or conversions, etc.. Never really done an all out restoration though but hanging out here the last few weeks has made me motivated to do so. Here is my project, an original Frogger. It ended up costing me $50. It is non working and the "guts" are a total mess. I will need to get a crash corse in the inner workings of arcade machines to get this beast going. There is no power supply, numerous "hacks" and lots of burn around the transformer so I am declaring it unsafe for operation until I replace the inner workings even though the previous owner claims they had it working not that long ago, well, I have heard that before - lol. Supposedly the monitor and PCB are fine and the wiring harness seems complete so that is a start which is good because my non jamma experience is very limited to say the least. I started with something easy and familier to me, the control panel. I used goo gone (which after reading the forums more it sounds like Goof Off is a better choice?) and heated a scrapper to remove the inferior willis CPO. Once I got most of the CPO and glue off by means of scrapper, I took it to the wire wheel for rust removal. The rust was on there good but it came off. After the wheel I hit it with a DA (220 grit) for a proper smooth sanding. I was happy with the results so I gave it a shot of primer and am letting it dry for a few days before I go any further, during this time I have been dis-assembling the interior which is somewhat new to me. Here is the first 5 pics
