I soldered 22 gauge wires to the dip switches of one of my boards (2002 galaga jamma), and extended it to be where the coin box is, just for the "freeze monitor" and "rack mode." I tested the voltage and all of the switches, are 4.37v and the switches I extended show 4.36v. Curious if this sounds like a good idea, or a bad idea? I was also planning on hooking up a big button selector for game difficulty and coin modes, so I do not have to pull the machine out and set it that way.

Thoughts?

You might need a want a way to power down the machine before flipping those switches.
Switching dips switches on the fly might cause some issues later on.

I would go into service mode to change the difficulty and the coin feed, but I would want it running to be able to live pause and level advance, right?

The live pause you would want to do that on the fly.

Some of the results from my experiments on a pause button on a Ms pacman machine.

The sound might cycle or get stuck on one note.

Depending on how long you pause a game you run a greater risk of screen burn if you leave it on for a long period of time.

Changing the difficulty while the game is on and running might cause the logic to crash.(It does on the Ms pacman machine)
