Atomiswave Dedicated Upright cabinet conversion: Light Gun - > Buttons/Joysticks

Thought I would post a couple pictures of my conversion Ive been wanting to do for more than a year now. I purchased a Sports shooting usa with the intent of converting it into a buttons and joysticks cabinet and that was able to come to fruition at the beginning of May.

I didnt think to take many (any) pictures of the cabinet beforehand, perhaps because the cabinet was not as I wanted it to be but here is an example picture from another persons cabinet as to how the game looked:

First, I had Franco B on Forum.arcadecontrols.com construct me the cabling I would need. After pinning out what the joysticks and buttons would be he figured out the connector I needed was a universal mini mate n lock 12 pin connector.

Here are the cables he built:

I did some trading of services with my friend and in return he constructed me a beautiful Control Panel for my machine. Here are a few in process pictures:

The controls are Viewlix style and I went ahead and had all 6 buttons placed in case I wanted to expand into CPS2/MAME/etc stuff passed its inteded 5 button atomiswave use.

To be continued with more photos in next post

and here is the completed process!

After the black coat and 2 glossy coats the conversion is really indistinguishable from a finished product youd find on a show room floor.

Now I can finally get around to playing the crazy amount of atomiswave games Ive collected!

I've never seen one of those cabs in person, but you and your buddy did a nice job on that control panel.

Are you planning on doing any type of custom marquee?

Always nice to be able to have multiple game options for something like that.

Looks good, I would add some artwork on the CP though.

There is a spot on the panel that covers up the atomiswave (I have it off currently because Ive been switching games so much) that has an artwork slot). Other than that I want to keep it nice and clean.

Actually I do have a really nice plan for a marquee. I have some really nice files for the atomiswave artwork that you would normally find on the side of the cabinet and Im going to have the word atomiswave printed on a transparancy along with the Logo and Sammy in the corner. Well actually atomiswave isnt going to be printed, more like thats the spot where there wont be any ink. The marquee will be black and the spot with the atomiswave word will be clear and then the logo and sammy will be their normal colors. On the back im going to get some permenant glass frost spray and spray the whole marquee down. Hopefully when it has a light put behind it that will give it a nice shimmer effect.

Im probably not going to get to this project for awhile down the road though.

Looks very good. How much did Franco B charge to make the cables and do you have his email? If you could shoot me a PM with the info. I've been wanting to do this to my sports shooting cabinet but hadn't bothered trying to track down what it would take to make the adapters.

I'm surprised how hard it is to find original control panels for that cabinet.

Couldn't you have bought the original atomiswave jamma wiring?
Granted that would only be a 5 button layout.

One would have to find the wiring adapter. They are not that easy to find, same goes for the control panel which is why he had to build his own.
