Ataxx...why didn't anyone mention how awesome this game is?

I blame all of you for not informing the public, especially me, about this game. ;)

Just played a dedicated unit (rollerball version...was told conversion tends to utilize/support joysticks) sitting in a cold warehouse and felt that great "discovering something new" vibe I miss about game collecting. It's a simple board game, but it's addicting and the art direction is strange but cool as hell. Don't pass it up if you see one in someone's collection or you walk by one at CAX.

I just picked up an Ataxx dedicated machine today for free.

I came on here to see what others thought of the game since I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it, sell it, or convert it as I'd never heard of it.

But if it's fun, I may have to give it a chance...

Love the game. Hard as hell!

I have a kit for it, but currently no cabinet to put it in (or the room if I had a cabinet).

Ataxx is a fun game.. but the CPU goes from simple to brutal in a flash.

The trackball version is best...

I knew i couldn't be the only one!! Ataxx is one of the games I am searching for (with very very little luck!). I grew up playing the trackball version in a bowling alley arcade in Milwaukee, WI. I found it to be such a fun puzzle game with a very eerie and obscure theme. I hope to find one to add to my collection soon. Anyone know where i might find one???? Trackball model is much preferred.

If anyone is aware of one of these for sale or trade somewhere along the mid-atlantic region (i am in charlotte, NC) or near Milwaukee or Chicago, let me know!!!!

I had the stick version years ago... came in the cabinet that is now my Williams Multigame...

The trackball version is much better IMHO. The stick isn't fast enough.

EDIT: Oh, and the original cabinet is badass...

I actually play this game a lot in my Mame cab with friends and family. It is very addicting and fun board type game.

I picked up a gutted Thief awhile back. Still working on putting that together (ok, not really. I'm working on other games, BUT I have most of the parts I need lol)

It was converted to Ataxx when I bought it. I could care less about that game personally. Just never grabbed me for whatever reason.

Anyway, still got the marquee if anyone needs it!

We had the game on route back in the day, and I'm pretty sure that was the worst performing game I ever saw.

Maybe ahead of it's time?

Not a game kids wanted to pay to play.

Wow! This was a couple years ago. :)

So did you pick it up, or pass it up? :)

I passed, only because I didn't have the cash and I wasn't looking to buy. Was just visiting a warehouse for something else.

Still, I think it's an awesome game. It's definitely on my radar for when I start buying up projects again.

I don't imagine this game doing well on route at any time, let alone the late 80's. It's not that the game is bad (I obviously think it's fun), but when I think of myself in elementary/middle school visiting an arcade during the late 80's, I was drawn to quick gameplay. I would've been bored out of my mind playing this at that age. I would definitely spend my quarters on something else.

Its more suited to the older crowd, i would compare it more to the type of game you would expect to see/play on the MegaTouch systems in bars. It's a fantastic 2 player board game to sit and play while chatting and chugging beers at a bar. I agree with it being ahead of its time.

This is one of my personal favorites. I discovered it as a teenager in the local Nickelcade. I would bounce between their Ataxx, T-Mek, BattleZone and Golden Axe. Ataxx looked forgotten even then, I'm sure the only boost it got was when I dropped in. I've thought about getting it for my own arcade, however I know it would go un-played for the most part (and my wife doesn't want any arcades at home, "keep that all at the business"). It's too bad but no one wants strategy/puzzle games these days.
