Atari's Garfield Arcade Game ROMS

The computer the game was programmed on was a VAX system. The boards are gone, but the source code remained. Dutchman re-compiled the ROMs from the saved source code, without a PCB. That is how. These were not "dumped" in a traditional sense, and it's crazy cool that he is doing this work.
So with that being said, what are the chances of it being emulated?

This is AWESOME! 😁

Hopefully somehow the full source code/ROMs will someday turn up for Gremlins, and if we're lucky Rocket Racer and Hovercraft's source codes will at some point get compiled into working versions. I think ET was also being planned for System 2 hardware but I don't think it got very far into development.

Holy shit a VAX? Its been a minute since I logged onto one.

They will want a high res photo of the game PCB if you can. If you need help, I can submit the file to one I've submitted things to in the past that lives in Italy with your info as the submitter.
There is no PCB, never was one really. This game never made it to production. This is as far as it got.

First off, thank you for sharing this! It's always great when unreleased stuff finds a way out.

I looked through the ROMs and saw there's less files in the zip compared to another System 2 game, Paperboy, so I hoping there's not any missing graphics data or anything like that. I did find these strings in one of the ROMs which gives us more info on who worked on the game:

Yup, Williams used a VAX as well for Joust, Sinistar and Star Rider.

Why'd I have a feeling they would do the "Play garfield" thing like they did with most Atari Games that collabed with famous TV shows? 😄

I have some code for Gremlins, but it is only the sound. No other data is present.

I have no idea if it's compatible, but I've wondered if the graphics data for Ms Gorf could be installed in regular Gorf in place of its own, it probably wouldn't fit the game well but it would be cool to see. Perhaps that could be done with Gremlin's sound? Install it into an existing System 2 game like Paperboy just so it can be heard?

BTW the source code for Ms Gorf is available but I have no idea what hardware it's intended for or if the game is complete enough to play, I suspect not given the fact nobody to my knowledge has ever done anything with it.

Most of it is in Forth -- it's intended for Astrocade since those games were also primarily written in Forth.

Any idea what is going on with it? I've heard rumors that Fenton and some others were trying to make it into a usable game, but that was quite a while ago.
IIRC the two biggest roadblocks are (and this was probably 10+ years ago by now):
a) the data recovery is a monumentally difficult task, and
b) Jaime doesn't want to spend time to finish the game even if the data is recovered.

Ms. Gorf related threads:

Hasn't that already happened? I've got a copy that was circulating around of what's supposedly the contents of those 8" floppies, there's even pictures of the disk's labels.
I understood that at the time as some of the data was recovered but not all. Who knows? Even if it was all recovered without incident - and that's a big if - the game was a long way from the finish line.
