I ran across a deal on an Atari World Rally stand up race game. I'm getting it for $50, the game plays great, the monitor looks great but the cab looks like crap. I don't know how rare or desirable this game is so I'm trying to decide if I should swap it into a smaller cab. I have 2 empty cabs that will both hold the 25" monitor and make this game so much easier to have in my arcade. I know some people are against this practice no matter what but is there a reason I should keep it as is?

You got pics of the cab in question? Just trying to figure out what upright style held the 25". I love the game. If I could choose a row of drivers for personal use, there'd be a set of Rush's, an Outrun, a PP2, and a World Rally.

I don't have any pics of it off hand, I searched online and found a small one of the front but it doesn't show the size of this thing. The cab is super deep, its a lot deeper than my Simpsons with the 4 player control panel included. I did see a couple pics of it in a smaller cab so I know its been done. I do have an NBA Jam that's gutted, I know I can use it for the conversion no problem. I also have a gutted Z back cab that I think will hold a 25" monitor, that would be my first choice since its the smallest.

Did World Rally come in a dedicated cab? I've only seen horrible conversions. Well, they could have been dedicated and just had a really shitty looking cabinet. Love the game, though.

World Rally is only a conversion kit. That said, there are certain cabinets that are more appropriate than others. Due to the way the wheel assembly mounts, I would try to choose a control panel that has less slope than others, maybe even a level surface.

Atari at the very least made a proto world rally in a 25" atari drawer cabinet. I know this, because I have the proto control panel. Good chance I have the proto cab(one of my generic jamma cabs has a bunch of car parts stickers on its marquee. Its a proto atari family cab)..

I would bet its sort of like dedicated relief pitcher. They made a few but they are very rare. Atari made 10 badlands, 40 shuuz, 65 skull and crossbones in the dedicated family cab, so the number of dedicated world rally is probably very low..

I once bought a dediated(or a very nice nice converted in an atari family cabinet) world rally cab at auction. It was gutted, but it had the atari games sticker on the back. I thought of converting it back, but you might be the only one on the planet interested in it..

Just to give you an idea of the 25" family cab, here is a pic of dedicated relief pitcher.. This one is on Ebay, buy it now for $800. I don't think there are any production numbers for dedicated relief pitcher, but I would guess under 100.

The cab I have doesn't look anything like the one above, I've never seen a cab like this one actually. The monitor is sloped back and the marquee is mounted in its own box above the monitor. There is no art on the cabinet anywhere, it only has the marquee and the checkerboard CPO. Its hard to describe since I have nothing to compare it to. It is wide but its REALLY deep, way deeper than it needs to be. I'll take some detailed pics to post up.

thats an atari family cab. It came in 2 flavors,19" and 25". Ususally you see them as klax, pitfighter, rampart, escape from the planet of the robot monsters, guardians of the hood, and 2 player cyberball. Most of the atari protos from that era are in those cabinets (cyberstrom, arcade classics, dr sparks lab, off the wall, marble madness 2, beathead, ect).

Given that the OP said that the monitor is sloped back and the marquee is mounted in its own box above the monitor, I'm wondering if the cabinet is the style Capcom used for the dedicated Super Street Fighter 2 machine.

On a long shot, it could also be a former Mappy or Jr.Pac dedicated cabinet that's been modded to house a 25" monitor.

That's a lot like it if not the exact cab. Now if its like 8 feet deep then that's exactly it!! :D Seriously though, its way too deep for what it needs to be.
