I'm thinking about getting an Atari System 1 vid. I've done lots of repair to pins (mostly WPC 1990s, driver boards, etc), but haven't ventured into vids.

Any suggested places to start learning about repairing System 1 vids?

I did locate the schematics. However, I'm wondering if someone has been nice enough to create a site with common problems or other tips.

Thanks in advance!

Most common problems I have seen are these two.

Bloody awful wiring looms, usually worth throwing away and starting again.

Too thin wire used on 5V and ground wires to the board, these need to be chunky or you get terrible volt drop.

On the dual board sets the weight of the boards can cause the upper to sag onto the lower causing nasty scratches.

Heres a repair I did on an Indiana Jones Temple of Doom board set that you might find an interesting read...

Womble, thanks! I read you post...good stuff! Always interesting to read what problems existed and how they were resolved.
