Here is my total scratch build of a classic i've wanted for the longest time!
So i was given the opportunity to basically buy the entire inner workings of a super sprint cab, pedals, wheels, hardware, harnesses, everything! The boards I got from a good friend, who also had a cab himself which he generously let me use as a template to build one from scratch, in turn I would build 2, so I could pass a new one on to him.
So after watching lots of carpentry vids, buying the right tools such as a router, pneumatic stapler, a shit ton of wood glue, and various other strange woodworking contraptions, I set to it. All the wood is what was used on the original cab and was bought from Home Depot, vinyl and artwork was from online.
What made this fun for me was that it was a super hard challenge, this isn't your normal arcade cab, the whole cab swoops back at an angle, so it's wise to accommodate the 3 players at front, but the system 2 configuration is small in size so the workings of the cab are tucked away in the narrow area!
All wood parts were meticulously measured, some parts were identical copies from the original cab, there's some rubber tubing going on at the front to hold the 2 side area angles together without creating a gap! The foot pedal area is black laminate just like the original (vinyl wouldn't last 5 mins) and I used some neat LED lighting in the footwell to highlight the pedals, and the color of the player controls!
It uses the original med res monitor that I had spare, it's actually a med res chassis/yoke on a standard monitor, I guess they had an abundance of standard res tubes lying around when they put this together?!
Did the usual polish to the wheels, painted all the hardware, coin door, metal pieces, new bearings on all the wheels/pedals! Just like new
Take apart the old one
Start cutting
Laminate for the base
Putting it together
Vinyl on the sides
