I found a match for the elusive rivet that Atari originally used on Quantum, SW, Missile Command, the list goes on...... Some would rather use 10-24 T-nuts and bolts, but if you want to nail the accurate look, here they are. These aren't impossible to find if you take the measurements with a caliper, but you need to buy bulk. My slight markup is to cover me buying bulk and the effort to mess with this then pack up and mail them.

These are semi-gloss, aluminum, 3/16" rivets, for a hole sized 0.192"-0.196. Head diameter is .375". The actual rivet depth is .45". This means it will NOT extend all the way through 3/4" material, but it will expand closer to the center/depth of the material. This is how Atari did it. I measured this against the rivets that secure the speaker grilles on the SW cockpit. From what I can tell, this is dead on the same specs. I have not tried them, as I'll have to get a larger rivet tool at Harbor Freight, but I have no reason to think these won't work and look awesome.

Quantum has 8 of these, 4 for each speaker grille. The cabarets use these to secure the marquees. BTW, if the hole in your repro cabinet is too large, you can easily glue a piece of same size dowel in, flush cut, then redrill slightly over 3/16".

The rivets are $0.25/each + $2 to ship (qtys under 25pcs). If I run out, I'll order more ASAP and let you know that there's a delay.

You will have to borrow or buy a rivet gun. Pretty sure Harbor Freight sells the one for the 3/16" rivet.

Anyone know how many of these are used in a Cockpit Star Wars? I guess count me in for however many SWCP uses plus about 5-10 more.

A thought I had -

I've only used rivets for DIY gutters. With these bigguns, it appears that you could pull the rivet with the rivet gun, enough to distort the end and expand it to lock into place, then tap the mandrel (nail looking part of it) out through the back and away. Not sure how hard it would have to be squeezed to pop the mandrel through the front side, or if they even work exactly like the little DIY gutter ones, although I think they'd work the same. My concern will be using them with a plexi cabaret marquee. Can't squeeze too hard on that, will need a gentle approach. With that, I don't think you'd want to squeeze until the rivet actually gives, if that makes sense.

What kind of tool do you have to use to attach these to the cabinet?

I'll take 8 for Quantum - sending info.

Ok guys, thanks for the interest. I will be ordering more so I can fill orders within a week. Go ahead with the orders and I will let you know if they're on order.

Thanks.

You'll need a rivet tool that does a 3/16" rivet and has a fitting with the hole large enough for that mandrel. Harbor Freight (for example) has one listed that states it does sizes including 3/16, but I haven't personally verified it. I'm thinking that it does, as I recall seeing some big honkin rivets there when looking for them. Of course HF only has the aluminum colored ones, so that was a dead end as far as the actual rivets.

ordering more, does anyone else need any?

These are also good for Atari Football, SD style cabinets, SW cabinets, anything where there is a speaker grille riveted on.

I got mine in the mail - thanks.

Are there any pics or videos of anyone installing these?

I have no clue how to do it.
