Atari repair bulletin - Tank monitor jitter

Interesting find. Mine has the jitter, I assumed there was nothing to be done about it. Unfortunately, the bulletin doesn't provide the value of the inductor, so I don't know how you'd replicate the modification.

I'd be willing to bet that not many operators installed that inductor too. Hmm.

yo Steve, what monitor is that? Maybe the inductor was built onto the board on later models/revs?

I was thinking that perhaps its just another of the same value inductor thats already on the board?

I have contact with some people that worked at atari back then but I doubt they would remember this.

Looks like L2 is 2000uh, I guess you could get a few values and experiment until you find one that works.

Interesting... I think I've got a few of these chassis' around here somewhere, I'll see if any of them have the mod installed (though searching for pics online, I haven't seen any, so it seems unlikely).

Tweaking the value of L2 probably wouldn't be a big deal... since the mod added another inductor in parallel, you know the final value should be less than 2000uH. And it's probably safe to assume that the original value isn't TOO far off.

And looking at the schematic, I don't think you're gonna cause any permanent damage by going a bit too far (you'd probably just lose sync).

I just checked my TankII cab, mine has a 2200uH inductor fitted.

I can't comment on how well it works as the cab is in need of restoration and the monitor is currently blowing fuses.
