Where does everyone find Eprom updates for their existing Eproms on a compact Race Drivin' unit?
I am wanting to upgrade from version 1.7 to either 1.8 and preferrably all the way up to 2.4 (last update).
Do I need to keep an eye out for a board set that has the latest or is there somewhere the rom data is available?
I'm new at copying/burning roms, but am willing to try it to get to the latest version for linking two units together.
Any info appreciated.

if you find somebone to burn em for ya lmk id live a new sound board romset as my shoud board gives me rom errors and i am missing a few minor sounds

Are you looking for ROMS for the cockpit or upright (or does it even matter)? I've got a cockpit and could help you out.

Just FYI, Cockpits and Compacts(uprights) use different ROMs according to Jed Margolin's website. WWW.Jmargolin.com
Mine is an upright.
Also, I mispoke on the final ROM version as on the Uprights the final version is 1.9 and not 2.4 like on the cockpits.

Race Drivin' monitor question

I have a 1990 Race Drivin' cockpit machine and, even after a re-cap, the monitor is deader than ever. No glow in the back tube or anything. Question for anyone who knows:

Can I put a 25" TV monitor and chassis into the machine? I know it's a WG K5500 that originally is in there, but I can't find anything out there in a reasonable price range. And i keep seeing these great condition 25" tube tv's in the paper for, like, $15.

Can anyone let me know if I can just swap out the original and have it connect to the boards beyond the chassis?

Thanks,

Oggie

Mine has a K8000 that I wasn't able to fully bring back to life. I've sent it to Chad at Monitorboss.com. You can get universal chassis' for your tube, but it'll run you close to the cost for Chad to repair your chassis. If your tube has burn-in, then a TV tube might be a good way to go. I'm doing that on a bunch of other cabs that have bad burn-in.

the cockpit used medium res.. i dotn think theres any universal med res chassis out there...

your better off having what you have fixed by chad over at arcade cup/monitor boss..

besides, i can tell you from experience that other monitors then what came originally do not work well in that game.. you will get glitchy video and or snow on the screen.

You could swap a tv tube but thats it, youd have to change the yoke and everything.. tv chassis will not work and not worth your time to mess with it.

Apparently Alva Amusements has Med Res universals... The tube is my problem tho, so I'll either live with it or do a tube swap.

OK, found erased eproms on ebay for a little over $1.40 a piece. And also located a burner and eraser there. Going to just use the 1.8 version set of Roms from one machine I have to make copies for the other....Once I get the burner working.

Im Crossing this Bridge now .Ordered the serial cable .One compact has 1.7 roms and one has 1.8 roms with Rear Mirror.I have a pocket programmer and eraser .Question is will 1.8s link the games or do I need the 1.9s?

Following, I have a project hard/race drivin compact/upright that I need to finish. I don't think it has the rear mirror view though.

Is there a url for this information, or is this tribal knowledge about linked game support?

i found a thread that the 1.8 v will work to link games but have not confirmed it .i have a set of 1.8s in one of the games and it has a rear mirror the 1.7 does not
