Any other fans of the Atari Lynx around here?

I just picked up Ninja Gaiden for the Lynx. Wow, what a great little conversion! Plays really well, the graphics are colourful, and it seems to include many of the little touches like the continue screen and intro. If only it was two players, it'd be perfect.

Add that to the loads of other good conversions - Klax, Toki, Rygar, Roadblasters, STUN Runner, Pacland, Rampart, Joust, Cyberball...

I picked up most of the games when lynx and atari was at its end.. Sort of a long story..

Back then atari wanted a major havoc for a convention(they were planning to do a jaguar version). The plan was for me to sell them a MH game. They called me last minute, but I was able to get a MH in tempest cabinet with full art ready.. I delivered it to atari, they shipped it to the convention. I was supposed to get paid in a few weeks..

A few weeks later, they called me to tell me to come get the game(pretty sure I was told atari was shutting down and I needed to get the game now or never). Since I was not going to get paid, the guy I was dealing with told me I could have a bunch of games in the warehouse as payment.. So I grabbed pretty much 1 of every lynx game I could find and some rare 2600 games I saw.. I really wanted to snag a jaguar VR visor, but there were none in there (I got to play with one when it was just delivered to atari).

Lynx was a very cool system. I gave them to my brothers kids for christmas. They digged them, but the problem was when they want back to school, they wanted nintendo handheld like all their friends were playing...

Whoops, should have posted this in the console forum...

There's a games store here in Sydney called Gamesmen that has been around for over 30 years. Many years ago, one of the original owners of the store was shot and killed in a store robbery.

I had my original Intellivision repaired there a couple of times, and most of my Inty games came from there BITD. They still have new old stock of some Lynx games. They even had brand new Lynx II consoles until only a few years back. I bought a couple for $10 on sale, and a whole stack of games (including a few rarer ones like Battlezone and Lemmings) for a few bucks apiece.

Could have ended much worse.

I have the Lynx II, still a little bulky, but a neat system with a few decent games.

For some reason, the DC-in plug shorted out, but it still runs on batteries. I was going to re-wire the battery leads to the plug, but just another project that never materialized.

I have one tucked away somewhere.. it's the II version. Have the visor (for the sun), external battery pack (D cells!) and the carrying pouch.. Maybe about 7 or 8 games too.

Have a Jaguar too.. =)

I know... I was glad to get the games back and the lynx stuff was a bonus. I knew the guys who setup the purchase, so they were looking out for me..

Lemmings is a hard cart to get.. I think it still sells for about $40 on ebay..

I liked warbirds, rampart, klax, and chips challenge...

I have both versions of the Lynx, multiple storage cases, most accessories, and missing 3 or so non-homebrew standard release games. I think I will pull it out and pay my Lynx tonight.

Just so you guys know Telegames bought Atari Europes stock. They still sell brand new Lynx's here: http://www.telegames.co.uk

In regards to the Lynx, the only thing that now blows is the LCD screen. I sooooo wish someone would make a modern day replacement mod for it! There appears to be loads of screens that are the same size and can support the res, just needs some custom connectors I guess. It would totally rock with a decent lcd screen, and I bet the battery life would improve a lot!

Haven't played my Lynx in a couple years. I think i know where it is. That is the first platform i played Robotron on - I like the actual cabinet better, now that i have one of those.

Klax was fun. And the flying game where you could connect 2 consoles and see each other - that was cool.

Oh yes, I hear you on that one. I've seen a mod to replace the LCD on a Nomad with a modern screen, it would be awesome to do a mod like that to the Lynx.

Although I think that the blurriness in the screen hides the fact that many games have a low frame rate.

Robotron is game that can only be played properly in the original cabinet. Just my opinion...

I had a Lynx back in the day, I had some kind of problem with it where the batteries would be drained within a very short time - not sure why. I never had many games for it, and ended up giving it away.

Agreed. It needs the two joysticks.

I think you'll find that was quite normal... ;)
