Atari gods shines on this thread and give me a real service manual!

I have the GL 1.6.1 PCB and the PDF of the operator manual. I am looking for a service manual that lists the LED codes on the PCB and other OS type errors.

PDFs are nice, but if that's not available I'd be interested in a paper one!!! Someone must have one of these OR know someone, right?

I don't have one and would love to see one too.

Ex Atari Folks??

Well someone must have worked on these. Any info would help all of the Gauntlet Legends owners. I will PDF the manual myself.

GL

yes, we all have that manual. We are hoping there is another one that explains all the OS type messages and errors as well. For example the 3 strikes message on boot. Usually this happens when the HD is going bad, but it also happens when a CF replacement is installed. There must be more info out there!

CF card

I've got the fastest CF card I could buy. It might have something to do with the IDE to CF card adapter powering on at boot. I have a theory that if the CF card was powered on first the issue might not happen.

The CF card does work.. you just get the 3 stirkes message.

----> Still hoping for some insight on a service manual! <---

It's a Vegas board set. If you want a service manual then google for any games that used that boardset.

I highly doubt it's a power on issue. If your CF adapter has jumpers you might ned to play with that. To prove or disprove your theory simply take an ATX power supply - a paper clip bent in a U and shove the paper clip in the hole for the green wire and select any black. This will turn the ATX power supply on. Leave the rest of your cab on the swicthing power supply.

I've had someone tell me of an adapter and card combo where they don't get the message. I ordered the adapter 3 weeks ago and am still waiting for it to be delivered... grrr!

I think the manual is lying in the bottom of my machine. I'll take a look when I get a chance.

thanks

Well thanks to those of you who actually read my posts before replying. ;)

I think this thread is the exact kind of problems we should be seeking out at KLOV and then documenting. Nice.

Perhaps if you'd have actually asked the question you had in the first place, instead of being vague, you might've gotten different and more accurate answers. GIGO.

CF adapter just arrived and now I've ordered the CF card.

I should know by the weekend just how well this works but I am very hopeful that it will work w/o the 3 strikes message.

I had a compactflash adapter in my GL as well (sold the game), and the machine worked fine other than the 3 strikes message on boot.

I always assumed that the message was due to the faster speed of the compactflash. I figured that it was 'ready' before the PCB expected it.

I'm just wondering why you're concerned about the message if the game works. Are you experiencing some other type of problem that you think might be related?

I personally would rather the game just work w/o the 3 strikes message but it doesn't matter a whole lot to me.

I've ordered the same stuff as someone else here that got it to work w/o the message so it should work well. (Same except for I ordered a 16gb card so I can get GDL on it too whereas he used an 8gb card for GL).

Just imaged my new CF card with the image from my hard drive and it came up in GL.

I did get the 3 strikes message but the game booted fine from the CF card.
