Atari Football restoration

Very nice website Rob!!! Maybe you could compliment your thread with some of your favorite before and after pictures of your game? :)

Great idea. Here is the game when I first got it home.

The cab was disintegrating, so I had to build a new one for it.

Sanded down the control panel, repainted it, and applied the Control Panel Overlay from Phoenix Arcade.

Repaired the coin door mechanisms (they work now), sanded it and painted it.

Here's we it stands so far. It is fully functional, and I am still working on the "wood-grain" siding and graphics.

Hey Rob,
I am trying to find the serial numbers on mine to add to your site, but I don't see them. The on on the board looks kinda like 1009, but it looks like only half of it is there, so kinda hard to tell. It doesn't look like there ever was one one the monitor frame - just clean metal. I also don't see a sticker anywhere on the cab.

There wasn't a sticker on mine either (well, you can tell lit was there originally, but was removed before I got the machine).

If the chasis was ever replaced, then the number would be gone. (monitor)

As far as the board....mine was VERY hard to read....in fact, it took me awhile to find it. It WILL be in that location (as indicated on the picture). Use a flashlight to get a better "reflection angle" off the board. You may be able to spot it then. It's very possible yours is board 1009.

I just picked two of these up, one with a stand and one without, both are birdie king 2 retrofitted. Both are solid and fairly complete, both have the original art under formica that is easy to peel away, interesting site my friend.....not sure yet how I will procede with them....

If you haven't heard, Rich at ThisOldGame.com is planning on reproducing the sideart for Atari Football. I don't know the timeframe, but I do know that he is working on it.

Completed

Completed this a little while ago. Installed the wood-grain vinyl siding, the art-work (from This Old Game), and even a new 25-cent coin graphic (also from this old game). Complete details (and more images) are on the web-site: www.AtariFootball.com

Here are the finished pics:

Great job. Been following your site. Years ago, I bought 2 project Football games. I fixed up and sold one, but still have the other.

The one I kept is missing the stand/base piece and the cabinet is in fair shape. I'd love to build a brand new cabinet for it, like you did, and this is inspiring.

That's really nice!

I think I am going to touch up my original paint some and repaint the coin door at some point.

Register

xxstatic...I started a "register" for Atari Football games on my site. Look it over and send me your serial numbers if you want to add it.

By the way, your game looks in very nice condition!

Hey Thanks :)

Just a very lucky find, I can't believe I have one as the last time I saw or played one was 1978!

I'll start crawling around in it this weekend and I'll get you the info.
